Re: Forced Hot Air?
We have it, I prefer it because it is instantaneous. As soon as the heat comes up, it get's really warm. Plus, no baseboard and/or radiators - just vents in the walls (which BTW can be used for central air at some point). Some people may not like it, but I actuallly prefer it. I had it years ago and it's in the house we bought last year.

Re: Forced Hot Air?
I had it in my townhouse, it was dry even with a built in humidifier. It was very warm though & pretty efficient. My gas bill was never very high.

Re: Forced Hot Air?
I have it. It took some getting used to, but I like it. it shares the same vents as the CAC.

Re: Forced Hot Air?
I had it growing up - it worked really well, but it was DRY. I'd wake up in the AM in the winter and my face and throat were all dried out! We didn't have a humidifer built into ours - if I bought a house with that system I'd def. look into it.

Re: Forced Hot Air?
we have it because we have CAC. It's great because it uses all the same ductwork. You have to change the filters every 2 months.
The air is VERY dry so I recommend buying an after markte humidifier that can be installed on the heating/ac unit if it's all electric like mine is or buying a whole house humidifier.

we have it, we changed the whole system when we put central ac, we put in forced hot air. I love it, there are no ugly radiators on the walls, and it keeps the hot quite warm

Re: Forced Hot Air?
just wanted to add that this is how they're building all new houses today... with gas heat forced air sharing the same duct work as the CAC. it's extremely efficient & easy to maintain.

it's a part that needs to be installed by an HVAC guy. I'm not sure what is involved, so maybe if the unit is easily accessible it could be done on your own.
Your other option is to buy a whole house humidifier which is a floor standing model that sits in a central location in your home. My grandmother always had one and put it in the dining room since that was the middle of the house.

Re: Forced Hot Air?
We have it and love it, but I do agree, its so drying, and ours does have a humidification system built into it.
We upgraded our furnace last spring and had a central AC system installed. Best thing ever!!

Re: Forced Hot Air?
HATE it completely! It is so dry in the ohuse nad when it comes on it warm then it goes off and its cold again. I will NEVER buy a house with forced hot air again. I would rather look at the baseboards then deal with this. JMO The dust that comes from it is crazy and we have great filters!!!

Re: Forced Hot Air?
I have it in my townhouse. I think it's fine except for the DUST! The amount of dust it creates is incredible - I can't keep up with the cleaning.

Re: Forced Hot Air?
I'm not a fan. I've lived in houses w/ every type of system. I like forced are least of all. It's hot then cold as soon as it turns off & it's really dry. We used to put pots of water over the floor vents w/ sented oils in them
I love my oil hot water. And thou unsightly those old huge radiators are great!
ETS: Not pots you cook in, that sounded white trashy, those nice ones you can get at the fireplace stores.
