Forgot to ask the dr. about the flu shot
Should I call? I've never gotten it before...and never intended to, but I hear so much about it....

I had an appointment on Wed and they offered me the flu shot... I refused.
The nurse practitioner that I saw for my appointment just asked if it had been offered and she didn't really say anything about recommending that I get it or whatever.
Honestly, I've never gotten the flu shot before and I don't want to start now - KWIM?

Ok- I had to call to schedule an appointment anyhow so I asked.
They said he "absolutely" reccommends that pregnant women get both flu shots.
Where does one even go to get one? The regular dr.?

My OB recommends it as well. You can go to your regular doctor but I'm just planning to go to Walgreens. They have it at CVS also I think after 10/1?

I just went to my doctor yesterday he absolutely recommends the flu shot (only mercury free) for pregnant woman...I have never gotten it before either but being 7 months pregnant i felt it was the best thing i could do for myself (this is jmo of course) he however is up in the air about the swine flu vaccine I WILL NOT BE GETTING THAT ONE I got my flu shot yesterday at walgreens because they carry the mercury free shot..my primary dr only carries the one with mercury which my obgyn is against hth

I s/w my obgyn and she recommends getting both the regular flu shot (with or without mercury) and also the swine flu shot. She too is pregnant and will be getting both, so I will be too. Since I already have a 2 year old, I want to be as prepared as possible. The flu shot with mercury has only small traces of mercury, so there is apparently no effect to the unborn baby. II think it's all your decision, don't let anyone talk you into something you're not comfortable with!

When I was pregnant during the flu season last year, my OB gave me a mercury free shot at one of my regular appointments. If your OB doesn't have it, I believe you can get a mercury free one at Walgreens.
