Former accountants-turned-teachers!!

I know there are a few of us out there!

Did anyone keep their CPA license current? I just got the renewal papers in the mail, and I am totally torn! It would cost $245 for the renewal, plus I am way behind in my continuing education, so I figure another $500-1,000 for that.

Totally torn on what to do. I can't see myself returning to accounting, but who knows?

I have an accounting degree but I never went for my CPA. I went right for teaching. If I did however, I may try and keep the renewal current. You worked so hard for it!

I'd ask yourself seriously if you would ever consider
1. Going back to a CPA firm.
2. Doing taxes, etc. on the side to make some extra cash...even a small client base can help give you an extra cushion. If so would your projected income outweight the cost?

I'm an accountant - I have often thought of eventually leaving the profession and becoming a teacher. I'd like to get my CPA license - and I think if I do - I'd like to do that on the side and during the summers.
