Re: formula covered by insurance???
Only with medical reasons, a dr RX for speciality formula. Regular formula is never covered and neither is lacation help or supplies.

Re: formula covered by insurance???
For those of you who had your alimentum covered---what insurance do you have? I thought that nutramigin (sp) was covered but not alimentum? This is GREAT news!

same for me.
From what I understand it doesn't matter what insurance company you use, its what your particular plan covers. For ex, I have United Healthcare - my company plan covers it, however my friend who has United has to pay for some of it.
DD has a protein allergy and the doctor had to write a letter of medical necessity and give a RX.

She screamed for at least an hour after every bottle. At first we thought "colic" but she wasn't screaming for 3 hours mostly at night, etc. she was crying hysterically for hours after she ate. We tried every "trick" for gas and nothing worked. Then she started having constant dirareah. She exploded out of EVERY diaper. The doctor said another sign is blood in her BM, but I never saw that.
They can test DC BM, but my dr was pretty sure it was an allergy and the Nutramigen worked wonders....so we are assuming its a protien allergy - never really confirmed it medically.

Re: formula covered by insurance???
They discovered that my son had a milk protein allergy by the blood in his stool. I could not see it, but they tested it and it came up poitive. After switching him he was so different. He was also grunintg after feedings and spitting up.
My insurance covered 90% of it.

For us, Andy was really fussy when eating and it was tough to get him to take a whole bottle. Then we started seeing bloody mucus in his stool, and we switched to Alimentum. That didn't take care of the problem, so now we are on Neocate.

Re: formula covered by insurance???
Just wanted to add that it is not only "special" formula that is covered--
a friend of mine gets all her formula mail delivered for her daughter (enfamil but she could have chosen similac) the dr writes a script and she gets 3 months at a time
so it is worth checking into
