Formula Feeders - How Do You Mix Your Powder?
I haven't gotten this down yet. It seems no matter what I do, it's clumpy. I bought one of those formula pitchers and don't like it at all, it leaves too many clumps. I have been doing each bottle individually but it's a pain to measure the water with the measuring cup for each bottle and then add the powder. How does everyone else mix theirs?

The bottles have measurements on them. I fill it to 6 oz., put in three scoops and then shake it. I've never had a problem with clumps.

I make bottles as I go. I put the water in the bottle, add powder and shake. I don't find it too bad or time consuming this way at all.
I get little or no lumps everytime.

I use the drop in's so the oz's on it aren't accurate at all based on just looking at it, since the drop in's are somewhat wrinkled (if that makes sense!).
See, I always look at the bottom of the bottle and see the clumps. Maybe it's because I prepare eight at a time and put them in the fridge and it has time to settle? I of course shake them before I give them to her again, but then that seems to make them bubbly and her more gassy.

I add warm boiled water (warm water reduces clumps) into a rubbermaid pitcher/container add the powder and shake it up. Works like a charms for me.

I make in batches of 32 oz at a time in a tupperware container and then pour into bottles. The key is to mix with warm or hot water, not cold water.

Since you use the drop ins, use a measuring cup to put the water in the bottle and then add the formula. Also make sure you use room temperature or warm water. I found using cold water or adding water to the powder causes the clumps.

Ahhh, that must be the problem. I've been using cold water from the Brita. I'll try the room temp water. Thanks!!!

Oh, okay sorry. I have no experience with drop-ins.

Re: Formula Feeders - How Do You Mix Your Powder?
I used the drop ins and thought that the ounces were accurate. I would just add the water, then add the scoops of formula, shake, then heat it in a cup of hot water for a few minutes in the sink.
There were lumps, sure, once in a while, but I didn't really stress too much over it.

Re: Formula Feeders - How Do You Mix Your Powder?
I do each bottle individually (with cold Brita water) and I bought the little formula mixer that you stick in the bottle and it stirs the formula up. When I used to shake them by hand, I found that it got clumpy on that first shake and a clump of formula would get stuck in the nipple. The mixer is great and we use is everytime!

Re: Formula Feeders - How Do You Mix Your Powder?
I just got the pitcher. I make it with warm water (half hot/half cold from the Poland Springs water cooler I have in the house)- it's finally working....

I do not use boiled water, just warm water and mix, havent had too many clumps, I use the Similac, I dont know if the type of formula has anything to do with it either

Re: Formula Feeders - How Do You Mix Your Powder?
I use mostly boiling water, added to a bit of cold so it doesn't crack the pitcher. I also make 32oz at a time. I add the water first, then the powder and then I use a whisk to stir it. I found if I made a bottle at a time, DD spit up more -- I guess because of bubbles from shaking it.

I do the same. reg formula I have no problem with. When my oldest was on Alimentum, I found that one was very clumpy and harder to mix.
