Formula Feeding Moms Please Help
My boys are 3 1/2 months old and take about 6 ozs a feeding (every 3 hours). Lately they have been sucking it all down and seem to want more.
Should i give them more?? Should i keep it at 6ozs for now??
When did you start giving your babies 7-8ozs??

Re: Formula Feeding Moms Please Help
I'm having a similar problem.... they drink 6 oz/4hours but go 8hrs at night. Not sure if I really should increase them at this point b/c they are still gaining weight

How many ounces do they drink a day.
I thought I read somewhere that it should not go above 32 ounces.

DS is 4 months old amd he is drinking 6 ozs too every 3 hours. I was thinking of going up to 7 ozs since sometimes he drinks is all but sometimes he does not.

Re: Formula Feeding Moms Please Help
I would increase a bottle in the mid of the day with an extra ounce. Eventually a bottle will be "skipped" - not meaning the formula will be skipped, but since they will end up having more they won't look for another bottle - the formula will be distributed differently but will still be the same amount. I wouldn't give them more before bed just in case it's too much on their belly's.

I would up it an ounce and they should go longer between feedings- that's where i am with DD now. She'll go 4- 5 hours at night b/c she'll take an extra ounce.

This is what the Ped told me. I asked him what I should do if he's had 32 and still acts hungry and he said to offer him water. HTH

Re: Formula Feeding Moms Please Help
You should keep a guideline that if they are consistently eating more than 32 ounces, their little tummies may be ready for cereal soon. It's more sustaining. My friend's son was powering like 40 ounces a day at this age and the doc added cereal...he immediately dropped 10 oz and started sleeping through the night...
Every kid is different though. Bella started eating 4-8 ounce bottles during the day and sleeping through the night. Maybe if you add to their bottles during the day, you can stretch their feedings...
It's a never-ending puzzle

He may need cereal to sustain him... I would ask my Dr. My cousin already has her baby on cereal at a mo. and a half. I think mine needs it too. The formula is just not so substantial in some children.

Re: Formula Feeding Moms Please Help
How many oz overall per day do they eat?
My pedi says (and this is just him, others can have different opinions) that 28 - 32 oz per day is enough. I give Liam 3 - 6 oz bottles and 2 - 7 oz ones. He's doing fine with them. Some days he sucks them down, others he won't even finish. Most of the days he finishes them normally though.
I would ask your pedi what to do.

Great..I am going to follow that then! Thanks. You really should double check w/ your pedi before changing anything...my pedi said not to bother w/ water until we start on solids, but again every doctor is going to tell you something different but I would mainly go on the advice of my child's doctor before making any changes.

No I won't do the water ... my ped is against that too. I mean i will go by the 32oz rule. I'm going to add two 7ozs a day.
