If you switched to generic, when did you do it?

Christopher was put on Similac at the hospital and he does well on it, my SIL sent me 3 cans of generic (one from Target and two from wal-mart) formula. They seem pretty similar, but I feel it is too soon to switch yet (he is just over two weeks old)

I mean, I can save the cans, they don't expire til 2009 or 2010, but I was curious if I was being overly cautious.

Re: Formula Moms

I've been told the sooner you use generic, the better. If your baby becomes too used to similac or enfamil, they may refuse the generic.

The health benefits and make-up are exact. It's something to do with the texture of the formula...I believe its a bit grittier?? At any rate, theres no harm in switching now...its not like you're switching from milk based to soy at once...just brands, which is not a big deal.

Re: Formula Moms

I switched around 3 weeks to generic without a problem. It saves sooooo much money! Like over $100 a month! Target, Walmart and Sam's are all manuf. by the same company so they are the same. The texture is a bit different than name brand, but it's nutritional content is exactly the same. Target's brand is cheaper than Walmart ($11 a 25 oz can) and Sam's is by far the best deal at $19.99 for a 50 oz can if you are a member.

By the time I finish the can I have now he will be about 3 weeks old.

I've already switched to Target's diapers...which I like, I should email them and see if he could be a "spokesbaby"Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Formula Moms

What about switching between Enfamil and similac? I have been using Similac, tried Enfamil, found he was getting fussy with it - but that was several weeks ago - I have some cans of Enfamil and owuld hate to not use free formula - think in a few more weeks I can switch between the 2? The ingredients and nutritional info is also the same...

I haven't tried the enfamil, but I have those free cans too....I was planning on using them as my "back up" cans. Just in case I need formula and can't get to the store for some reason.

LOL you should! I haven't tried the Target diapers, I heard good things about them though. As soon as I run out of the Luvs, I'll try those. The drop in liners that are Target brand are good too. Cheaper than playtex if you are using those.
