Formula Question
Sorry to butt in here but i have a question. I don't plan on breastfeeding and want to start signing up for formula on websites but i have no clue how you decide what formula your baby is going to have. Does the hospital decide that or do you?? Do you tell the hospital what you want your baby to have?
I am having twins so i probably will need a formula that puts on weight more....is there one better?

Re: Formula Question
You can call the hospital you will be delivering at and ask what they start babies on. Chances are it will be something like Similac or Enfamil. Then you just have to wait and see what your babies will need. They might each have different formula needs so it's best to wait and see before you actually buy anything. But it doesn't hurt to sign up for coupons for everything.

Re: Formula Question
Mercy hospital does similac advanced. Will you bf for the first several days, or pump, so that the baby can get the colstrum?

Re: Formula Question
I know I was S. Nassau and they just gave the baby similac advanced with iron. It was fine at first and I went with it. I signed up with Similac and Enfamil for coupons and samples (wiat til you get closer to baby is due) and I give away the enfamil on sites like this and give the samples to the church. My baby enventually had to change to similac alimentum but it takes a few weeks to know what is right.

Re: Formula Question
At the time I had Emily (2004) NSUH Manhasset was using Similac Advance with Iron We had to switch to Isomil due to a milk allergy, but from what I hear, Similac is pretty popular to start with.

Both of my boys use(d) Similac Advance w/ Iron (LIJ and NSUH Manhasset babies). I can't believe my lil one will be drinking milk in less than 5 months!

Re: Formula Question
I had my kids at Winthrop and they had both formulas if I remember correctly. Really they are pretty much the same and only time will tell if you need to switch them to a more specialized type. Usually the package of free formula the companies send you is one regular one, one soy formula, which are the most common. When my daughter needed the expensive stuff (Enfamil Nutramigen or Similac Alimentum - which are basically the same thing) I chose Nutramigen b/c it seemed that Enfamil sends out alot more coupons. I dont know if its changed, shes been off formula for about 9 months now, but I remember rarely receiving Similac coups in the mail but the Enfamils would come often.

No I will not be doing that.
Thanks for all the tips ladies. I'll sign up further down the road for both.
