Fort lauderdale or Key west?
Trying to pick a long weekend trip-do we go to Fort Lauderdale or down to the Keys? Packages i'm pricing are much cheaper for Fort Lauderdale; but will Key West be for fun & give us that island like feel?
We've never been to either; so don't really know what to expect. If it turns out worth it to pay the extra $$ for a better time in the Key's we'll do that.

I just got back from Key West with my SIL and we had a blast! Definitely more of an island feel then Ft Lauderdale. But, Ft Lauderdale is definitely an easier, cheaper trip. We actually had the same exact debate. We decided on Key West because neither of us had been and we had both been to Ft Lauderdale. I think they're both a lot of fun and have a lot to offer. Ft Lauderdale you have the option of taking a day trip to Miami too. But the perk of Key West is that you can pretty much walk anywhee or rent scooters for cheap.

If you are going with kids then I would recommend Fort Lauderdale over Key West.

Be aware there are no direct flights into Key West, you would have to change planes in one of the larger airports like Orlando and Miami (not sure about FLL or PBI )and then get a smaller plane into KW. It can be a long day with little ones. However, I took my son to KW when he was about 8 and he loved it. In my experience, Ft Lauderdale is nice but aside from the beach and restaurants we get pretty bored there after a day or two. Whereas, KW is a funky, quirky town. Just walking around in and of itself kept my son amused. GL and have fun in whatever you decide.

I would vote for KW A few ladies on here recommended Casa Marina to us and it is great. A nice stroll to the center of KW, but has a secluded feel to it- with TONS to do.
as for getting there - I think everyone should drive to KW at least one way. There are no words!

FYI, if you're not comfortable taking a smaller plane, you can connect into Atlanta and take a regular sized plane direct into Key West, that's what we did. The best part for us, is that we were able to fly out of our local airport only 10 minutes from my house.
