Fortunoff may be filing bankruptcy!
Just read in Newsday that Fortunoff may be filing for bankruptcy. I really hope it makes it through it's tough time.

I worked for them for 10 years and left almost 2 years ago...they sell wonderful stuff, but its hard with all the competition that is out there...it would not surprise me at all if they had to begin shutting down stores Which makes me very sad being that I grew up in that company and still have many close friends that still work there.

Funny, a friend of mine is good friends with a web company who told her they (the company) are doing a complete redesign of Fortunoff's website.
I guess only time will tell.

I like Fortunoff a lot! They had some unique items and great jewelry.
My "push present" from DH came from there. I love thier Christmas shop, too!
Everytime we walk through DH comments on the really old computers from the 80s you print out registries on.
I hope they don't close.

I had a co worker run into a problem with Levitz when they went out of business. It's a good thing she put the furniture on her credit card. I would be careful ordering from them.

It's so true! I never really thought about the computers.
I will really miss that store if it closes. I really hope it doesn't. I buy so much of my stuff there.

Good point! I also know someone who had issues with Levitz when they were going out of biz. She used her amex so no major harm done, but PITA regardless.

I just ordered a china cabinet from them two weeks ago - and it got backordered till March! Crossing fingers here.
Fortunoff's is literally my favorite store in the world. Mine doesn't have the old print-outs for registries but still the old print-outs for some purchases.
It's right down the block from me in NJ and I make every excuse to go in there...I'm hoping they pull through!

Levitz filed chapter 7...which means they're going out of business.
Fortunoff isn't going out business per se, they're re-organizing. Yes, there could be issues with orders, but hopefully Fortunoff will be able to keep their doors open.

Once they took the family out of it, it has changed. My mom has a lifetime discount there since she was en employee for 13 years. I worked there too. They used to let me use her discount. She lived in AZ. They changed that about 2-3 years ago.
If they do file, it will probably be chapter 11 and that's re-org. The store is always packed and they do a very good business. Some firms do that to get rid of their debt. It may also be a way to sell the stores and make it look more viable to a potential buyer.
Either way, the corp that now owns the majority share also owns some property around the Source Mall and they may try to sell that to create cash as well. It's a very high value piece of property.
