Found dog

I just found a dog on my block running the streets. It took forever to chase her down. She definately would have been hit by a car. Has no tags.

The dog looks purebreed to me

I have a few questions, maybe you can help me :

1) what breed dog do you think it is ?
2) are these dogs usually sold microchipped ?
3) where would you look for posted lost dogs ?
4) where could I get a microchip checked on a sunday ?

I checked craigs list, didnt see anything.

hoping to find her home. she's cute, a little dirty. maybe running for a couple days.

1) what breed dog do you think it is ?
wish i could help you there!

2) are these dogs usually sold microchipped ?
no, usually you have to pay for it to get done.

3) where would you look for posted lost dogs ?
lostpets.com, animal shelter web sites.

4) where could I get a microchip checked on a sunday ?
any animal hospital will check for you.

sorry not much help. what a cutie from what i can see! thank you for taking care of her. good luck and keep us posted.Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Found dog

The pics are small but to me it looks like a poodle mix or possibly a Bichon Mix. It also looks like it has a Puppy Cut, so that might be throwing me off.

Many breeders and even some less than reputable places will chip the dog before sale, so there is a decent possibility that the dog is chipped.

You can go to a local shelter on a sunday to see if the dog is chipped. I would recommend calling first and making sure that they check for chipping and also that they will not make you surrender the dog to them to check.

If you are in the Farmingdale area, the Vet on 109/Conklin I think has sunday hours. You can check there as well.

Re: Found dog

This little dog is adorable. I think it is a poodle/bichon/maltese mix possibly.

I would look on Petfinder and Craigs list for lost dogs. Also contact local vets in your area to see if anyone has called looking for their missing dog.

Odds are she wasn't sold chipped. You could take her/him to any vet (where are you, an emergency vet may do this for you on a Sunday) to have the chip checked, I would think they would do that for free just for a quick check since you found her. I could be wrong.

I would be very wary of posting her pics on Craigslist, I would list her coloring, where you found her, all details but no pics. She is a cutie, someone will want her and could lie and you would not want that.

She is adorable, any chance you would keep her if no luck?

Re: Found dog

I think she looks poodle/bischon/maltese. You can feel around her neck area for the chip.. I know exactly where Lola's is.. In the back part of her neck near the shoulder blades.. Any Vets office will check.

I would look on telephone polls near schools in the area. Along the main streets... Newsday as well.. To see if someone posted lost pics..

You are so wonderful for taking this dog for now. Mine is on my lap too everytime I type.. its our snuggle time everyday,,

I really feel your going to find her owners...I dont know why but I do? Chat Icon

thanks!

I called an ad in newsday for a lost poodle/shitzu mix. I don't know much about small dog breeds. She said the dog was chipped, so I am bringing to a petstore to be scanned in a couple hours.

I listed her on craigslist, but didnt list the sex or anything. Just small white dog found running in babylon village.
I 'm weary of someone trying to take this small purebreed as their new pet.

someone emailed me that their friend lost their maltese/poodle, that was all she wrote. I told them their friend should contact me with more details.

I'll keep you updated.

i agree with everyone above, she looks like a poodle/bichon mix to me.

i found a dog a while back, and got my vet to check for a chip for free. i would go to the vet or to your local shelter to check the dog for a chip, but make sure you won't have to surrender the animal to the shelter.

then i would call all of your area shelters to report a found dog. they can then see if anyone has called them to report the dog lost.

if no one claims the dog within a certain period of time (i think it's like 5-7 days here in NC, not sure about NY) then the dog can be yours to adopt or find a home.

good luck!!!!! Chat Icon

We took the dog to a petstore, no microchip.

Went around town and hung signs, we got a phone call 1 hour later.

So she is home again.

I kinda miss her. She swam in the pool with me yesterday. Sat on my lap all day.

My niece was mad when the lady called, she was hoping to keep her Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Found dog

it def looks like a malti-poo to me.

Go to the local pet shops/groomers. They can scan microchips and may have heard about lost dogs in the area.

Oh, i hope you find his home

oh wow. I would have called you for the reunion had I known. LOL

name : annabelle
breed : bishon
age : 2
not housebroken (atleast not in my house) which was not fun. she pooped and peed wherever she felt - backyard, house she didn't care.
woman was very nice on the phone and said she didnt sleep all night.
She came by with a baby on her hip and said she had two more at home.

She asked me when I found her, I said 5:30 last night. She said that was about the time that she lost her.

When I was walking posting signs, someone told me they always see a white dog running by the school yard, so I dont know if she gets out often Chat Icon

The dog didn't seem to have any reaction to seeing her or the baby. Which I thought was weird, the dog gave me & everyone that walked in my house huge hellos. But she left right away with them. I was expecting a huge response.

She mentioned she has no fence, I told her she should put tags on her dog. She says they got lost.
Hopefully little Annabelle has tags on today.
But I suspect I will be seeing her again.

reward - she gave me $25. I didn't want to take it, but she insisted.
Then I thought about the poop on my rug and how I had to shampoo the rug. So I took it Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Thansk for the details! Oh, so she was a bichon. Ok.

I really hope she treats that cutie right. It is odd that the dog didn't seem to react to seeing them. I have a feeling you may see this dog again, sadly. She is very very lucky that YOU found her dog, and returned her, that's if she cares enough. I am glad you took the $, maybe she will put tags on her dog and watch her dog more carefully. Chat Icon Chat Icon I can't stand that stuff, that little baby got out and could have gotten hurt or killed.

You're did a good thing, hope the lady does the right thing now. Chat Icon

Re: Found dog

I forgot to mention 2 of the best parts :

1) the woman that I helped chase the dog originally was TOTALLY going to keep the dog for herself without looking for the owners. Which I thought was messed up & that is why I wouldnt let go of her once I caught her.
She was saying things like, " they probably don't care about her, she doesn't have tags. They probably dont even take her to the vet"

2) I called an ad for a lost dog, the woman told me that the dog was chipped. I checked the dog and told the woman no chip. I also informed her that the pet store said she was bishon not the mix she had listed as missing. She proceeded to ask for my address saying she wanted to check for herself. noooo. She also left a message on my answering machine saying we should assume that the dog is hers and that someone had taken the microchip out!?!?!?!?! I was scared for a little while that day.
