FOUND DOG: Update

DH and I found a dog in our neighborhood a few hours ago. I'm nervous about just anyone coming on here and saying that this is there dog when it's really not, so I'm not posting a description. I will say that he is extremely friendly and loving. If you're looking for a dog in that area, please message me and tell me what the dog looks like.

Thank you all for the suggestions! We took him to a vet...no microchip. Chat Icon

He is SO friendly. I feel like some family must be heartbroken tonight. He loves my DH; he keeps pinning him down and licking him like crazy.

Update: DH & I have been trying to find his owner with no luck. We've called the police, vets, etc. We'll keep trying, but it looks like we'll be keeping the dog if we can't find his owner. This poor baby is so attached to us (and us to him!) that we can't imagine giving him away and breaking his poor little heart again. This is all pending us finding the owner though, of course. I imagine they miss this sweet baby so much.

He is so precious! He's completely trained, which is great. He and DH were playing with a bone, and I said "Can I play?" and the dog brought the bone right over to me. Chat Icon

He knows sit, stay, walk, walk slow, no, come, etc. He was all rambunctious the last two nights, but when we turned the light off and said, "We're going to sleep now," he plopped down on his bed and off to sleep he went.

We're worried about introducing him to our cats. My Dad is going to come over tomorrow night and help us out with that. We were saving to go on a vacation in about two months, but I think we're going to put that off and do some construction instead. The staircase in our house is built in such a way that we can't just put a door at the bottom of it, so we're going to build a wall and put a door there, so that each type of animal would have a full floor. Of course, we're going to introduce them and hope they get used to each other and let everyone roam freely when we are home. However, I'd prefer the door for extra comfort when we aren't home. Does anyone have tips on dog/cat introduction?

I'm probably going to be asking you ladies for some tips in the next few days, since it's been awhile since I've owned a dog!

Re: FOUND DOG

my next suggestion is bringing to a vet to see if he/she has a microchip.

I hate when doggies get lost. They get so lost.

Re: FOUND DOG

I would check Craigslist for a lost dog and would make a post about a found one.

A poster just had her dog returned by seeing a "found" add on there.

Good Luck and thanks for picking him/her up and keeping him safe.Chat Icon

Re: FOUND DOG

Thank God you picked him up. However, be careful, dont describe too much on Craiglist. You would not want the WRONG person to claim him. This actually happened to a woman, it was on the news. Someone lied and said it was their dog and they were handed the dog. The woman still could not get her dog back even though they KNOW who gave it away, bc the just didnt know WHO claimed it.

So please be careful when posting a found ad on CL.

GOOD LUCK and keep us posted. You are very smart to be strict with the descriptions!!!!!!Chat Icon Chat Icon

I Chat Icon his owner comes forward soon.

Thank you for the support and suggestions! I posted an ever vaguer description on Craigslist than I did here, because you never know who is reading those things!

Re: FOUND DOG: Update

Wow. I am so surprised you have not been able to locate his owners. He sounds so sweet and friendly that he surely had to be owned, however, people can be cruel....and let's just say that maybe he loves you both so much b/c clearly he can tell he is loved. I think it's amazing if you keep him. Just think...he found you guys, he loves you both so much ALREADY. So I think it's amazing if you can and will keep him, for you and for him!

The cats will eventually get used to him. I can't give tips on that, as I only have dogs at the present. Where are the cats since you have had him?

What you're saying is def true! I'm shocked too. But yes, people can be really cruel...you never know if someone just decided to turn this baby out. His owner could've passed away; he could've jumped out of a car and is from far away...so many possibilities.

They have their own room with all of their belongings, so they have been in their room. They're usually free to roam throughout the house though, but we they do go in their room when we have holiday gatherings/allergic people are over/construction is happening/etc., so they're cool with it, thank God. The dog went to the door to their room and sniffed around, and he just came running back to us. That's been the extent of their interaction.

I just have to say that you and your DH are amazing people! Most people would have just dropped him off at a shelter and forgotten about him (if they even stopped to help him in the first place!) Sounds like he has a great home with you! Good luck! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: FOUND DOG: Update

I have to admit, part of me is really sad that you might not find his origional owners. I am sure they are missing him right now and he is probably missing them also. I wouldn't give up completely on finding them. Accidents happen and sometimes dogs get away. It is unfortunate that he wasn't microchipped and didn't have a tag on Chat Icon But I would still pursue finding his owners.

Craigslist, Facebook, X-post to Families Helping Families also.

And if people do show up to claim him, maybe they can provide a vet bill with his breed/weight/description, or some family pictures, to confirm that they are the rightful owners.

I hope this all works out! Chat Icon

He's so lucky that you are the ones that found him! Chat Icon Chat Icon to you and your DH! My parents found a dog who was the exact same way....sweet, playful, trained and they tried everything to find his owner too thinking the same way you are.
