fraudulent credit card charges
Ugh, anyone had this happen to them?
Our bank/credit union just called DH (who is away on business) to report that our credit card number was being used at stores in Florida. They cancelled the card immediately for us. We haven't lost our cards, so I don't know if this is identity theft or what.
Other than contact the companies where we have automatic cc charges every month, what else do I need to do??? DH told me the bank said something about filing a police report so the bank can investigate? Of course this would happen while he's away and can't help!

Re: fraudulent credit card charges
We have been going through this also..we filed a report. But, quite honestly, they dont really do anything. But the report is nice to have in case there is any future issues with credit report agencies..
ETA: we had charges on a card that we have only used for balance transfers. We only used the checks that the bank sends you..(never the card #)..the cards themselves are attached to the paper that they came on, sitting in our safe!!!!

Re: fraudulent credit card charges
I figured there wasn't much they could actually do, but if filing a report will help, I guess I'll get on the phone. The last thing we need is for it to affect our credit scores.

Re: fraudulent credit card charges
yes, this happened to me very recently. be thankful your credit card company let you know - ours didn't and there was 4grand worth of charges overseas! file a police report and make sure you contact one of those 3 big credit history companies (equifax etc) so they can put an alert on your account and forward it to the other 2 agencies. best of luck with this, i know what a PITA it is
