sOmetimes you do though..I did a similair thing for Stuff Magazine for DH and he got it for a year free.

its probably free, so that the can go to all the people that advertise in their magazine and say look we now have this many more subs, so more people will be seeing your ad. We want more money for ads now.

often alot of the free subscriptions can take a few months before you start getting them. I have been getting many free subscriptions and never anything where they end up billing you....
I think too, you get a free sub. for a year and they figure if you like it enough, you will renew and pay after the free year is up.

I get a lot of my magazines from Best Deal Magazines . They're not free, but you can get a lot of magazines for $4.69 and they also send me emails for extra discounts every now and then. The prices for the magazines change all the time so one month it might be regular price, but if you check back you can get it for $4.69
