Free food because I had no cash. Let's discuss.
-Do you always carry cash on you?
-Would you have felt a bit guilty?
I was craving Boston Market cole slaw all day. I went to the drive-thu tonight and they said they didn't have any. (seasonal). I ordered some potatoes and some mac and cheese.
I rolled up and went to give my debit card. The girl at the window kind of grimaced and asked if I had cash, as the machine was down and she couldn't ring up anything with credit or debt.
I'm now staring at my yummy bag o'deliciousness, sensing that it won't be mine.
I said, no, I never carry cash on me, and even opened up my wallet to show.
Anyway, I was given my food. I felt like I was stealing, in a way. It felt weird.
Do you carry cash? Sometimes I have a 20 on me, but for the most part, it's debit or credit.
Secondly, what ever happened to those old-school credit card swipers? Where they make an imprint on the carbon copy? Can't they use that and write down my license number on it, too?

me too! I guess she could have said on the speaker at the drive-thru that they only were accepting cash, but I guess she forgot, and then felt forced to give it to me?
I even asked, "Are you sure?" I was willing to forgo it, and go to another location..but she insisted.

I do always try to keep a $20 bill in my car - I don't ever want to need gas and the CC pump isn't working.
in my wallet - it's hit or miss.

I ALWAYS have cash on me. Maybe not a lot but I don't ever want to be in a situation like you just posted.

I have lately been trying to have cash on me!
Last summer, I got a flat at my son's school.
AAA came (thank gosh) and I felt like a fool because I couldn't tip the guy!
Since then, I *try* my best to have some cash on me.

Oftentimes I have no cash on me. My DH is always yelling at me about it. It's a habit i need to break b/c it can lead to some embarrassing situations.

I try to have some cash on me but sometimes I dont even have $1 on me the other day I went to subway in source mall and they made my sandwich and I didnt have any money.My friend paid for my lunch

I dont carry cash. Mom always told me to keep a "bindle" tucked away in my wallet.

I rarely have cash on me too! I use my cards for everything. Although I know that I should always try to keep a 20 on me, but I feel like I spend it more quickly if I have cash in my wallet.

I never use debit, never in my life. Only cash or credit.
Good for you, you got free food. You weren't stealing, too bad their machine was broke. I am happy to see they did the right thing and gave you the food anyway since it was THEIR fault you could not pay.
eta -before DH, Ibarely would have cash on me but now DH insists I have plenty every time I go out

I try to have $20 on me but I definately dont carry a lot of cash on me at all and there are some times I dont have any on me.
dont feel guilty about the food...it was nice of her to give it to you. But their fault you couldnt pay.

I try to always have at least $10 on me, but there's been more than a few times when I've forgotten to replenish the $10 and been caught without cash.

I hardly ever have cash on me. Debit. I wouldnt feel bad about the free food (they would have had to throw it away anyway).

I can honestly say I 100% ALWAYS have cash on me. When I get low, I take cash out. I don't understand why people don't carry cash?

I use to hardly ever have cash on me but since DS, I always try to have at least a $20. My Dad always told me to carry something with me. . .when I got my first job in the city, he forced me to take $100 bill he gave me and keep it hidden somewhere in my wallet and ONLY to use it for an emergency.
