Free/low-cost INDOOR things for a 2-year-old

So what are some ideas?

We can't really afford the extra money for a place like My Gym, and our library is closed for construction.

The mall near my house, the play area is kind of ghetto and the bigger kids have the run of it so that's not really an option either.

Any ideas? I live near Massapequa. TIA!

Thanks for the idea. Maybe we will go there with DH tonight when he gets home from work.

Random question about the libraries: Do you have to be a resident of the town to go? I belong to the Copiague library because this is the town we live in (Amity Harbor). Can you go to any Suffolk library system though with your card? TIA!

I go to the northport library without being a resident. You can play there, but can't take out books.

My DD LOVES crafts..so I got her a big paint book, lots of crayons, stickers etc. She also loves puzzles and she could push around her baby stroller for hours lol Chat Icon

Also, McDonalds has free play areas you can go to..I always end up having to buy her food there though.

My Gym, Little Gym, MATSS, Gymboree all offer FREE trial classes. We've tried them all and I would love to join one but they're just not in our budget at this time!

I am not sure how it is in Suffolk, but you CAN take out books at other libraries in Nassau.

You can in Suffolk too, though I think there may be some restrictions. We go to our library and others, went to the free story time at Target this morning (lots of fun and they gave out goodie bags--I think someone on here posted about it!), go out to lunch at McD's or BK (DS loves running around even if they dont have a play area).

Bounce U is $13.00 a child for 2 hours--adults are free. My 22 month old had a great time even though she couldn't go on everything.

We usually just take them to a fast food joint that has a play place in it.

My parents live in Huntington. The South Huntington Libary has an ok play area. The library has free museum passes. You can go to LICM, AMNH, and a bunch of other museums for free.

Does your library have museum passes?

DS loved running around in Ikea. I know Broadway Mall also has a play area in the food court.

I just posted this on another tread. The McDonalds in Centereach has a HUGE play area that is closed off form the eating area. When DD#1 was little we would go for pancakes in the morning and then she would play for hours. It is usually very quiet in the AM.

We like the bay shore mall play area..that's free, not sure how it compares to the one by you. There's a pet store right next to it so it works really well for us.

The bay shore library is nice and new, they have a train table, a few play tables, puzzles, fish and books.

Little sunshine in sayville has open play for 5 dollars.

Barnes and noble story time for toddlers is 1030 on Tuesday's..There's one in bay shore.

Bouncers and Slydos has toddler time Mon, Wed and Fri. I think it's $10 bucks.

Wood Kingdom also has open play which is pretty cheap.

Broadway Mall in Hicksville has a play area - but only go during school hours so the big kids don't overwhelm your little one. They also have some of those quarter rides.
