Bookshelves? You can buy two of the same and put them back to back. Those folding screens are also nice, especially the ones you can put photos in.

Re: Free standing wall

In our basement they put up 2x4's and attached wood paneling to it. It looks like a real wall but also looks like it would be easy to remove. But maybe get some kind of modern board/paneling instead of the 70s kind we have!
The book cases are also a great idea!

Julie - do you have a pic of what you did - We were thinking of doing the paneling idea - what did you use - 2x4's - how did you attach then to the ceiling....

GREAT IDEA....

DH would love to see what you did if you dont mind sharing....

Re: Free standing wall

We didn't do it... it was there when we bought the house. (So it is ugly old paneling.)
They have a piece of wood laying on the floor... not sure if it is attached to the floor though. Then there are 2x4s nailed to that piece on the floor and to the ceiling. We have a beam right there that they are nailed to. Then there is paneling attached to one side of the wall. I guess it is like a regular "real" wall but panelin instead of sheetrock?
I took some pictures, please ignore the mess:

Re: Free standing wall

Ray just told me the wood is actually smaller than 2x4, it is like 1.5 x 3.
It is very thin, doesn't block out noise.
He said it wouldn't be much harder to just do a regular wall, then you would have to spackle and paint though.
