Frequency of Baths/Showers...
I go on another messageboard and all of these women say that their children (ages from toddler to teens) take baths only once or twice a week!!
They say in the summer the lake water or the pool is just fine and they don't need to take a bath or shower afterward and if they do they don't need soap.
One says that her kids NEVER use soap.
Now I know bar soap is not good for you as it dries out your skin but NEVER?? My kids use either regular bodywash or ones that are made for kids.
Am I "out there" because I like my kids to be clean and give them baths either everyday (if they are really dirty) or every other day (our usual)??

I give my toddler a bath every other day (unless she is especially dirty, she'll get an extra bath)
She has eczema and her skin dries out easily so I use Dove soap. I can't imagine giving her/or me taking a bath/shower without soap... what's the point?

Re: Frequency of Baths/Showers...
Honestly, there were summers as a kid where I lived at the beach and in the pool and nothing gets you clean like salt water and chlorine! Couldn't do that now, though. Honestly, I remember my Sunday night bath routine. As a kid, we took baths b/c we were dirty, not because we had b/o or anything. Kids don't have the same issues that adolescents and adults have. Sorry if I grossed anyone out, but I grew up in a pretty European household and that's just how we did it.
ETA: bathing frequency def. increased after 8, don't worry!
ETA#2: I think it's important to remember that just b/c these children are not getting baths does not mean they are not getting clean. I know for me, everyday, bath or not, I had to fill up the sink with soap and water and use a washcloth to wash my body. EVERYDAY!!! My WHOLE body, crevices, cracks and all. I was clean.
Even now, sometimes in our apt., they shut off the hot water for repairs. I have actually had to heat up water, pour it in the sink and wash the old fashioned way.

Um, that's gross. We don't even have a working shower or tub in my house right now and Ava gets a bath everyday with soap! I'll drive the 45 minutes to my mom's house to use the tub if I have to!

Re: Frequency of Baths/Showers...
It is fact that when the body is not clean, it is more susceptible to illness. I cannot understand why and how some parents of small children would allow that.
Adolescents are another story. I work with them and it is hard as heck to get them in water - much more of a struggle. Many times I have come close to fainting when my 11-13 year old students do not bathe regularly.

Re: Frequency of Baths/Showers...
Yesterday, my 5yo DS got two baths, both at his request. He enjoys them. Some days he skips a bath, but it's at least every other day.

Re: Frequency of Baths/Showers...
Odd man out here.
I do not bathe my DD every night, unless she's dirty. In fact, I thinking daily baths do more harm than good. And yes, when she was younger, she sometimes only got a bath 2 times a week. She was a baby...how dirty could she possibly get!?! Now that's she a toddler and much more active, especially outdoors, she gets more baths. If we don't got outside and she doesn't get all nasty and I'm running short on time, well, then she doesn't get a bath.
FWIW, she's never had a skin issue and knock on wood, she's only had 1 cold in her 2 years of life.
Same goes for DS who's going to be 4 months. I tend to bath him every other day, only because he has a lot of hair and it gets super greasy. And yes, sometimes he'll go 2 days with out a bath. The horror!!!

Re: Frequency of Baths/Showers...
I remember as a kid getting a bath on Sunday nights. Now that I think of it I guess that is kind of weird. I can't imagine bathing my kid only 1x a week. I wonder if I was stinky?

Re: Frequency of Baths/Showers...
DS gets a bath every other day. I don't understand how people think a pool is like a bath...it may be filtered but it's still water sitting outside. DS went in the pool yesterday but I gave him a bath afterwards even though it was his "off" day.

Re: Frequency of Baths/Showers...
My sons only bathe 1-2x per week. But they aren't smelly and they have good 'everyday' hygiene as in they wipe when they use the toilet, wash their hands frequently and don't use a lot of 'product' that would contribute to their hair getty sticky or whatnot.
They use a kid's body wash with a washcloth and 2 in 1 shampoo/conditioner.
I guess I am a freak and my kids are filthy!
