I made stuffed chicken parmesan last week and it was delicious. Maybe that with spaghetti, salad and garlic bread?

how about penne all vodka?? always a crowd pleaser!
or buy a pork tenderloin. they are pretty cheap yet very tasty!!some come already seasoned- dont get those, always too salty and filled with preservatives! you can season it up so many different ways and grill it or broil it. serve with garlic mash and string beans drizzled with oil and fresh chopped garlic and a salad of course..

I think a BBQ in the summertime is always a crowd favorite. You can whip up some hamburgers, hot dogs and chicken. Make a few side dishes (maybe a pasta salad and corn) and dinner is done.
Another easy option is baked ziti (I add meat to my baked ziti so it is pretty filling as a dinner).

Re: Friday dinner with friends , have no idea what to cook
I had another couple over the last weekend and I made Salmon, couscous, green beans and avocado salad.
It was quite good! And healthy---which made room for the Smores we made after that!

Re: Friday dinner with friends , have no idea what to cook
id buy a 2lb thick (like 1.5") boneless sirloin steak - rub it with chili powder, garlic salt, cumin and groupd red pepper on both sides- grill it medium rare aand slice thin before serving
do a cesar salad (romaine, good cesar dressing, good crutons and shaved parmigana cheese)
buy a package of sweet potato fries from trader joes and cook thme in the oven until crispy
also get some nice rolls

You could do a Fondue night!
Make a fondue, and have a bunch of Dippers, such as:
soft pretzelsm, cut into 1" pieces potatoes carrots broccoli toasted bread

Re: Friday dinner with friends , have no idea what to cook
a great baked ziti recipe is always a winner and crowd pleaser... with garlic bread, a great anti-pasta salad and some delicious wine!
i love making chicken fajitas -- i find it fun with all the trimmings. i have a lenox dish that turns where you can put each "topping" in a different section of the holder. then, there is a tort holder to keep them warm. i make them with spanish rice and a taco salad - it is fun and flavorful.
hope that helps!
