Friend has mastitis
Not sure if I spelled that right. But do you have any suggestions to make it less painful for her? She got medication from her doctor and he is encouraging her to continue breastfeeding. I know some ladies had posted some websites that were very helpful - any suggestions? And her son won't take a bottle - should she just keep trying different nipple types? He's only a month old and was a month early. Thanks!

Re: Friend has mastitis
I had it like a month ago. Oh I feel like poo. Keep nursing, often. Nurse from different positions if she has a clogged duct. Gotta try something to dislodge the clog. Use a breast pump. Use hot and cold compresses. Massage the breast that hurts. Take meds, pain killers as needed. REST!!

Kellymom is the most useful site I've found for bf advice. I hope there is something helpful there for her!

Re: Friend has mastitis
Thanks girls! I remember when I first started BF'ing in the hospital I was bleeding, burning, etc. it hurt soooooo much and that was just because I didn't have her latched properly so I can't imagine the pain she must be going through since I know it's MUCH worse!

Re: Friend has mastitis
I woke up with it one morning...the fever lasted close to 3 days. Its terrible, but she really has to keep putting that baby on her boob. Shower and while in there massage it.
The #1 cure, REST. Its so hard to do with a baby, but tell her lay in that bed with baby...surround herself with diapers and feed the baby in bed, change him in bed...
It is terrible...
