Friend needs help -job related
My friend will be resigning in August to change careers - her current job is fully aware of this and has been for the past two years. 2 months ago (7 months prior to her impending departure) they posted an ad for her replacement, telling her they just want time to find the right person and for her to train them, etc. They have not yet found anyone, but they are now asking her to put in writing that she plans to resign in August. (Their reason for needing such a letter is to justify the new hire for budgeting purposes).
She is nervous, and I agree, that if she does this and they find a replacement sooner they may let her go prior to August, and then b/c she would have signed the letter about her resignation she wouldn't get unemployment or severance. Does anyone know if this is true? If it is, is there a way to word the early resignation letter to protect her from this? Should she sign anything at all?
TIA!

Not sure, but my first thought would be to have her final day outlined and then have the details of the severence etc outlined as well. Part of me says nothing in writing, but if they find a replacement ahead of time can they screw her more if it is not in writing?

She wouldn't get unemployment anyway if she resigned.

I don't think so, putting it in writing scares me more - I think they can point to it and say she was resigning anyway, so they don't owe her anything.
