Makes me crazy.
I can't believe people don't care who runs their country.
It's one of the main things that will make me whip out my soapbox.

Re: Friends/family who do not vote....
EVERYONE needs to vote. Bottom line.
If you can't decide between Obama and McCain, then write in a candidate, but for God sakes, VOTE!!!!!!!!!!
I vote in each and every election, whether it be presidential, or school budget.
I think that the amount of time and money spent to get people to REGISTER to vote is absurd. This is something you should just DO.
I get so mad about this topic!!!

Re: Friends/family who do not vote....
i only voted once in my life for pres. and that was only because kryssy's teacher was pushing her to make sure that we all vote... i took her in with me and gave her the experience and will more then likely never vote again.
before you all attack me here is my reason: they all promises do do this and that and yet NOTHING THEY SAY EVER HAPPENS and if it does it does not help me in any way of my daily life. they play high school games , say nasty stuff about each other yet we are told and tell our kids you do not have something nice to say do not say it.... ex. this year with palin(sp) daughter and how she is pg... WHO CARES that is a family matter for there family not mine. that would not sway me one way or another... if and when i see a pres. actually DO something that will help someone in my position in this world then i will vote. all i hear is this and that on how this one is bad and that one is doing this. but yet what are they doing for us little people... nothing so why should i give them support when they do nothing to support us... this is just my honest opinion.
i do vote for school budgets but that is about it. why because THAT does help my family.
ps here is also another reason... we are hurting so bad with money right now but yet it takes all this money to prove how you will help the country... i do not think so ... it takes the TRUTH and not how can i get people to vote for me then screw the country

I don't vote and the reason is that the popular vote doesn't really count. I lost respect for the political system in 2000 when Gore won the popular vote and lost the election. What the h ell is the point of us voting if our voices aren't "heard" anyhow??

I also can't believe people don't care about local elections. Our local officials have a huge influence over our lives and most people don't even know who their local offices are (or where to even look up that information)!

I usually do vote- but I do have a question. If you aren't going to vote for one of the 2 main candidates- and are just going to go there and write someone in- who obviously can't win anyway- what is the point? Yeah you exercised your right to vote and all- but you aren't voting for who our next leader is going to be- you are just going there and writing something in- so how does that help shape our future?

I am voting 3rd party this year, so many people think I'm throwing my vote away. I see it as a protest vote.
I'm voting against the status quo, and by voting for a 3rd party candidate I am showing my disgust with the current political climate. If enough people voted this way, the two major parties would have to start running the country the way the people want it run. We need candidates who give an eff about the American people. We need to stop being run by lobbyists and special interests and multi-million dollar corporations. We need to return the control of our country to the people.

I think this is the issue - it is a right that is taken for granted. We don't think about what happened yesterday so that we have this right today.

I have voted in every election held in my city, state and country since I was 18!
I do not, will not debate politics with those that don't choose to vote.

Same here.
I dont get how people could NOT vote, and it takes away from their argument, imo, but i guess i'd rather them not vote than vote for the person that i really dont want in office. I also don't really buy into the whole "it's my right to NOT vote" theory either. Obviously that's their perogative, but I disagree with it. I don't know too many people that are REALLY in love with either candidate, but they both represent issues that are SO important- so regardless of whether or not you like them, i feel like it's our responsibility to make that Decision. Whether you like it or not, a president will be chosen- leaving that choice to other people so that you can be exempt from the blame... you're entitled to do that- i just disagree with it.

By voting for a third party, you are giving the third party a chance to get election funds, and participate in the major debates. If a third party group gets 15% or more of the vote, then they wil be considered a 'major' party and the goverment will give them funds to use towards their campaign, and also would allow the third party to participate in debates, etc.
So - you aren't making a difference in that particular election, but by voting for the third party you are giving them a chance to become a major player down the line.

I agree and look at this election. Alot of people voted for Hillary and Obama ended up winning. I keep hearing everywherre "Why should I vote like it will count anyway". I think alot of people aren't going to turn out to the polls this year because I think they are widely disappointed in the candidates and the VP picks too. But I guess we will see in 50 days.
