Front Load Washing Machine
My machine has a funky smell to it now... I think its in the plastic part where the door is that smells.. I tried to whip it down but not working..
Has this happened to anyone?
Should I do what I read you ladies posting on another thread to clean it with a cup of vinegar?

Re: Front Load Washing Machine
It can't hurt, although my MIL said it was more to keep the machine running properly. A repairman told her to do that over 30 years ago. She hasn't had an issue with her washer since. She replaced one that was 25 years old for no other reason than it was just inefficient, still worked just didn't pay to run it.

Re: Front Load Washing Machine
Tip
Keep the front door open when not in use to let it air dry. That is what I do so it doesn't smell moldy.
Other than that, I don't know what to do and would not use the vinegar in the HE machines b/c I don't know if that can harm it?

Re: Front Load Washing Machine
My girlfriend just told me about the funky smell from her front loader...she read, I think on Consumer Reports, that they recommend leaving the front door slightly open after you finish a load. I will have to ask her on the specifics or do a search on Cons. rpts.

Re: Front Load Washing Machine
if you think it is mold on the door seal, you'll likely have to get rid of it before you do as other suggest and leave the door open.
a little bleach on a papertowel, followed up with rinsing it off a couple times with a sponge would likely work.....

Re: Front Load Washing Machine
It says to leave the door open and the place where you put the detergent. I always leave it open

Re: Front Load Washing Machine
I only had that problem twice then I was told that Tide HE maybe the reason for the smell so I switched to another detergent and never had that problem again.
Here's something that works.

Re: Front Load Washing Machine
I had this problem and it seemed worse when I was using Tide HE...I stopped using the tide and started to leave the door open after a load.
The smell went away finally all my clothes smell wonderful!

Re: Front Load Washing Machine
It's mold. When did you buy the machine? Is it old? If so, you may want to call the company. On our old machine, there was a recall and they came and installed a new liner, because of the mold (it was a Maytag Neptune).
The front loaders have this problem. We got rid of the Maytag one because the mold just grew back.
Now we have a Kenmore brand and we leave the door open and use towels to wipe out the sealer around the door (water puddles there) and wipe the front of the door out every time.
Search on the internet and you will find tons of posts about this problem.

Re: Front Load Washing Machine
I just had a repair man come today to fix my front loading dryer (only had it for 6 mos.) And before he left he told me to make sure to leave the door open to the washing machine to let it air dry and to also wipe the inside and door. Otherwise it will stink and you will get mildew.
