Fruit Recall

It doesn't list all of the groceries, do you know if Fairway and/or Waldbaums were included in this? I couldn't find anything, and the CDC hasn't updated their website to include this yet (I think because no one has gotten sick yet, according to the article & the FDA this is proactive, not reactive, so my understanding is that there have been no illnesses related to this ... yet).

The first link has the pictures. The article has the links to both a list of fruits and a list of desserts that have been recalled because they use the fruit.

I've called my Stop and Shop...they said received the recalled fruit and got rid of what was left.

I called my doctors office and talked to a nurse, shes going to look into it for me.

Fairway in Westbury has not been informed of any recall - and she was pretty adamant that they take that very seriously so she is pretty certain that she would have been informed by now.

No, it's ok, I read it last night and stupidly assumed it was just the stores listed... It doesn't look like my Waldbaums had any of the recalled fruit either. I'm breathing easier.

I noticed the Trader Joe's peaches box was on there - but it's the 4lb one, I think I've gotten 5lb one normally…And have probably had like 2-3 of those boxes in last few months. Ugh, assuming I'm fine if I haven't felt anything.

Glad to hear re: Westbury Fairway, that's where I get all my produce lately.

I'm confused because all the articles I read are saying certain stores, Walmart Costco traders Joes Sams Club Bj's. But stop and shop said they received them and threw them out...

The nurse did say that listeria is very rare. Shes looking into it for me.

Let us know what your nurse says.

The only thing that makes me a little worrisome is that I've been eating about 5 peaches a day, I'm obsessed. Most of it is from Fairway, but still.

Ugh. Just more things for us to worry about! Gotta love that it's all the organic stuff too.

I did just read that if you were infected with Listeria, you'd feel symptoms (and since this was from June shipments), by now we would probably know. So I think we're all okay.

I called my office because the waldbaums couldn't confirm/deny. What the nurse said was we will test and apparently the other doctors there reassured that there was treatment if you did come back positive... I don't know what it is, but I'm glad that my day at work is busy because I'm near tears freaking out about this.

Fruit Recall

This is NOT exclusive to a few stores. A large grower issued the recall, and they ship to many wholesalers, etc. Meaning, you could pick these peaches up ANYWHERE. Even "local" produce stands, many of whom purchase non-local fruit and peel PLU stickers off of them...

Eastern Peaches are OK - look it up by the label

That's what I figured too, but mayo clinic says that it could take up to 2 months before symptoms appear... stupid Dr. google.!

This is ridiculous. And doctors always tell you avoid cold cuts. This is why I follow the everything in moderation idea.

Does anyone know if this includes whole foods? That's the only place I shop now.

Fruit Recall

According to my DH "this is bullsh!t" and I'm stressing over nothing.

"I'm probably inhaling more toxic fumes then eating a fruit"
"U work in a doc office with diseases"

Grr he is driving me crazy, I feel like he takes none of this seriously ever.

I basically got the same reaction from my DH. I think I'd feel better if I was further along... I'm not feeling any flutters, i might have but I'm not sure, and they aren't constant. ugh I won't have a dr. appointment till Aug 4.

Fruit Recall

This might be a stupid question, but WHERE is the contamination? Like, does it seep through the whole fruit, or is it essentially just on the outside?

My doctor called back. She said at this point with how far along I am they would only treat if they saw symptoms, which I haven't had. They also said most like would be out of my system already. The peaches I had before my last appointment. They plums I had right after it, but no signs of anything. Thinking about it, I'm not sure I ate a whole one since they were super sour.

Fruit Recall

I just was reading the precautions section on the CDC website, it seems that it's basically limited to the outside of the fruit - so washing thoroughly (which I always do) is a good way to prevent it... I'm much less worried now that I've had an opportunity to calm down and relax. I only ate about 1/4 of the darn peach!
