Frustrated - dress size vent
This weekend I ordered a dress from David's Bridal for a wedding I'm in. I go in and the girl guestimates that I'm a 2, so she hands me a 2 and I try it on. It's way too big on me, so I ask if I can try a 0. But they don't sell size 0, so I have to order a 2 and get it altered. I know it's not a huge deal, but it's frustrating to not be able to order my size and be inconvenienced and charged for the alterations. What bugs me the most is that I'm not even "skinny," just small-framed, so I feel like this must be an issue that comes up at DB fairly regularly. And salesgirl, telling me I'm "so tiny," doesn't make me feel good, so please don't comment on my size and I won't comment on yours.

I hope you're not offended, but just an option... can you get the same dress in a teen style? Or have someone (like Gownfind) make it for you?

i hear ya!! i had almost the opposite problem when i ordered a BM dress for a wedding i'm in in may.... i'm usually a street size 6 or 8.... i had to order the dress in a size 12!! because they are sized so differently. i know its just a sizing thing, but it made me feel sooo bad having to get a larger size than i usually wear.... i wish they would all get together and figure it out! LOL

I know how you feel, Whammy!! I hate when we're penalized for being small.
I'll never forget my final fitting, I'm standing there in my wedding gown looking all dreamily into the mirror when I hear the seamstress behind me say "Aw, you look like you're getting your First Communion". I seriously balled my hand into a fist but stopped myself bc I didn't want to get blood on my dress.

BJandDan - Thanks for the suggestion. I already ordered the dress, but those are really good ideas.

The off sizes is how they get you at DB so they can make a ton of extra $$$ on alterations. My dress and my BMs dresses were from there. I got my dress on sale, but with the price of all the alterations, it ended up costing more than what the regular price would've been.

The sample may be stretched out from trying it on. I found that with my wedding dress form there, the dress they ordered was tighter than the sample.

They never sell you the size you are supposed to be. Even if they HAD a "size 0" it would not really be the right size. They do it so that way they have to sell you alterations. I have never known a person that didn't need alterations

Seriously! I went when I wore a 12 in most things & they had the dress I needed in stock in a 12 & a 14.
I was having a low self esteem day & picked the 14 & it was way too big & said maybe I should try the 12, and the sales person said no, it would probably be too small & ordered the 14.
She wouldn't even let me try it on & it was right there. I should have been pushier.
In a normal store they wousd at least show you a size chart.
The alterations to basically make the whole thing a size smaller cost & much as the dress & never looked right.
If you can, have it altered elsewhere.

I bought my wedding gown from David's and they pulled similiar issues with me.
I had heard horror stories about their alterations and the costs, so I went elsewhere and paid just around $100.
