Frying-What typoe of oil?

When you fry, let's say chicken, what type of oil do you use?

Re: Frying-What typoe of oil?

if im frying it in ALOT of oil, like when making breaded cutlets, I use vegetable oil. DH insists on having a vegetable oil-olive oil blend. For any other frying where less oil is needed I use only extra virgin olive oil. Unless it is asian inspired, I use sesame oil to give it that extra taste and smell.

Re: Frying-What typoe of oil?

I only use peanut oil for frying chicken.

ETA: The reason for me is that peanut oil can be heated higher than a lot of other oils so the breading gets crisper (IMO). Also - for some reason the taste is different to me. Vegetable oil leaves my fried chicken tasting like oil.. but peanut oil adds a better flavor. But it might just be because my family always used peanut oil (I think it's a Southern thing) for frying so it's what I'm familiar with!

I think I want to start doing that! I love the taste but usually only use it when I'm making my chicken satay. It's never occurred to me to use it all the time. Huh! DH would not approve but I won't tell him and see if he notices. Chat Icon
