Re: Ft Lauderdale recommendations
I love Ft Lauderdale. Plenty of good restaurants. Mai kai is fun for decent food and a great fire show Pirate republic bar is in a weird area, but has great dockside drinks and amazing food (especially their fire shrimp and fish fingers). We go every time we are there Sea watch is an old style restaurant that serves good food and has pretty ambiance (on beach). Early bird is super crowded as the older people pack the place! Wild sea oyster bar was nice on Las olas Shooters is a local place and ok (good for drinks and fries) and is on a pier. Hooters is right on the beach and it’s pretty common to see families dining for the beach views (not just the waitress views). With kids, you will get the best service and the preggo waitress! There are plenty of others that are good... but the above are places I’ve gone to multiple times. We have gone with at least one kid to all.
As for things to do: beach and Everglades are both big and awesome attractions. There is a boat tour of all the rich houses on the water which isn’t bad. There is another boat tour that takes you to a teeny island with alligator wrestling. Also not bad. If it rains, movies and there is a huge outlet mall called sawgrass mills (or something like that). Hard rock casino has a cute night area and a great comedy club (but haven’t gone with kids).

Ft Lauderdale recommendations
We just got back from a long weekend there - it was great.
We went to Shooters - the food was good but, you need a reservation to eat at a table (we ate at the bar because they were saying 3 hr wait!)
We also ate at Hooters, H20, Casablanca Cafe, and took a cab up to Lauderdale by the Sea and ate at Cafe Aruba.
We didn't have a bad meal there.
