FT working moms (outside the house) who BF...

How do you handle the morning feeding? I will be leaving the house at 6:00 AM to get to work by 7 (I work in the city). Do I wake up DS at 5 to feed him then put him back to sleep? Do I skip this feeding and just pump? The nanny will be coming to the house at 7am before DH leaves for the day. She can give him a bottle of expressed mik as she will thoughout the day. I am really so torn as the whole idea of nursing is that I love to nurse! It is truly my bonding time with Jeremy. I am having a hard enough time leaving him in the first place that I don't want to cut that out entirely.
I will be pumping at work so ideally I will leave the pump at work and just carry around the cooler. I am returning to work the first week of January so I want to start getting into a schedule now.

Thanks!!

If your baby will do a dream feed then i would feed her in the morning. If not, you may be better off pumping or else the baby will want to be fed everyday at 5. This is a difficult situation I wish I had better advice. I work locally so I leave my house at 8.

Thank you for your reply! I think I will try the dream feeding idea for a while and go from there. If it doesn't work, I can always change, right?

I don't leave so early, so I am not in your situation. What I do is pump before Jordy wakes up - around 7:15. She usually wakes up around 7:30 and then I try to push of feeding off as late as possible before I leave for work.

What I would do is feed him in the morning, but that is because I LOVE BF and I look forward to that special time b/w me and DD.

If it is not such an emotional thing for you, I think the most practical thing is just to pump.

I loved BFing in the mornings and at night, so I woke DS up to nurse him before I left. I would BF and then put him back to bed, then my nanny would come and he'd wake up around 7:30-8.

I guess it really depends on your baby.
IMO, if you skip this nursing session it will make it more emotional to go to work. You love that time together. If you skip it you will feel that you missed out all day.
But it is hard to wake up your son while he is sound asleep everyday. Twoweeks
before you go to work, begin your new routine. Even have the Nanny come. See what works best and what doesn't.

if you need any help pumping let me know. I did it for a year.

Thank you all for your replies.
I think this is what I will do. The nanny starts today and we are alreay up for the day so we will see how it goes. Of course, last night he decided he doesn't want to sleep though the night anymore and was up every 3 hours Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon .

I have a similar concern- I will be returning to work at the end of January & want to continue BF (I also love it!) morning, afternoon & evening without pumping during the day. I'm going to try to get DD on that schedule (with formula during the day) now & see how my supply holds up and if DD can eat at 6 am & then fall back asleep for an hour or so. I really hope this works!

Good luck to you!

I would dream feed too in your situation. I didn't dream feed. I would wake the baby up to nurse for 15-20 minutes at 5:30. Get me dressed. Get him dressed (and changed because that's what happens after they eat). One tip is to make sure to pick him up facing AWAY from you after he's eaten. I've had to change outfits many times before I learned that one.
