FTWM what time do you and your 18-24 month old eat dinner?
Do you eat together and do you eat the same thing?
Im still feeding John first then us.. and John usually gets leftovers from the night before b/c of timing.
John and I get home at 5:00 and play outside until about 5:30.. DH gts home around 5:30 and John wants to eat at 5:30....so i feed him somethign that I just have to warm up..then I cook our dinner/
I hate this..I want to feed him what we are eating but afraid of having him wait to eat and afriaid if I give him a snack tie him over..he wont eat dinner?
what are your thoughts.. how does it work with u?
(i know i've probably posted this 5 millions times.. i'll give myself the )

I don't pick them up until 6:30 so they eat dinner at day care .
Can you ask daycare to give him a snack at like 4pm to maybe hold him until 6 and you can eat together?

Re: FTWM what time do you and your 18-24 month old eat dinner?
In our case - it depends.
If DH is home that day, then we all eat together (DH cooks and we all eat the same thing).
If DH has been at work, DS usually gets leftovers and we eat afterwards.
I don't get home until about 6:30 so we eat then and I don't have time to cook for DS before we start the bedtime process
ETA - Just saw Carolyn's post - on days he's at daycare, he gets a late snack since he's in the late program.

Re: FTWM what time do you and your 18-24 month old eat dinner?
We pick them up from DC around 5:15 and get home at 5:30, as soon as i walk in the door I start cooking, I will give tham a few animal crackers or goldfish if they are attacking me in the kitchen. I try to have dinner ready by 6-6:15 and we all eat together (except Fri/Sat night when we eat "in peace" after they do - those night I usually cook them something quick - cheese omelet and toast, pasta and peas, fish sticks/sweet potato fries). We play after dinner to around 7:15, bath, milk sippy and bed by 8.
Is there any way to cut down the soon as you get home outside playtime? or start cooking once DH gets home and let me him play with John and have dinner ready by 6? He should be able to wait until 6 to eat (and I don't think that a few goldfish, crackers or some fruit will totally spoil his dinner!)

I may try this.. he def wants that playtime after daycare which is good b/c it's my time alone with John before DH gets home!!

Re: FTWM what time do you and your 18-24 month old eat dinner?
DS usually eats at my Mom's before I pick him up.
It's not ideal, but why don't you all eat leftovers together? After you all eat dinner together, why not prepare the next night's meal? That way when you get home from work, you just re-heat the meal you made the night before. That way everyone is eating together and the same thing.
I realize most people wouldn't do this, but I'd be fine with it. DH doesn't really like leftovers, unless it's pasta.

This is us too, plus Mason goes to sleep at 7 so he has to eat early. We enjoy the playtime together even though we don't eat together during the week.

Re: FTWM what time do you and your 18-24 month old eat dinner?
DH gets the boys around 4:30 and I don't get home until 7PM so he does the cooking and then we all eat together.
Nothing too crazy - mostly BBQ'd meals.
Examples from this week: Monday - pork chops, pierogies, applesauce (Mommy had cheerios due to M/S )
Tuesday - Burgers, Beans, Peas
Wednesday - Ravoilis
tonight - probably a pizza
ETS: Colin goes to bed about 8:15PM every night so dinner is on the later side but the boys have a snack (usually goldfish or cheerios) when they get home with DH b/c I really like to sit down at the table together. If I'm getting home later, DH will feed them and then we'll eat together at 8:30PM.

I don't get home until about 6:10, so he usually has a snack at my mom's around 4/4:30pm and then eats dinner with us around 6/6:30pm. His bedtime is at 7:30, so we run around & play after we eat.

Re: FTWM what time do you and your 18-24 month old eat dinner?
We live with my ILs so my MIL cooks dinner. DH and I get home usually around 6pm and we all usually eat together aroun 7pm. My girls don't go to bed until 8:30/9 though.
I don't know what I'd do if they had an earlier bedtime. Prob ask my MIL to feed them at 5:30 before we get home.

Re: FTWM what time do you and your 18-24 month old eat dinner?
I always save leftovers from the night before, so if I do feed him at 530 it's like he's eating what we're eating
I have moved his bedtime back to 8 though unless of course he hasn't napped since like 10am or something crazy!

Re: FTWM what time do you and your 18-24 month old eat dinner?
DCs are 3.5 & 13mos but since DS was 23mos, he has eaten with us at 7 and now we all do. DD used to eat before we got home but that was only while she was eating baby food (which she did for like a week ). Once she was fully on table food, it made more sense for her to eat with us. They do have a snack around 4ish and I will give DD some cheerios or peas or something if she's really hungry and I'm still cooking (it doesnt affect how much dinner she eats).

Re: FTWM what time do you and your 18-24 month old eat dinner?
I do the same thing. The kids eat around 5:30 and we eat late. Tonight everyone ate super early, 4:45. (hoping to have them in bed by 7:30.)
Some nights we eat at the same time, most of the time we don't. We always sit with them when they eat. I consider that the important part. It's just not possible to eat together all the time.

About 7pm, and we all eat together. I give him a bottle of milk some nights to tide him over while we cook.

Re: FTWM what time do you and your 18-24 month old eat dinner?
DH and I both don't get home until about 7:00 and sometimes 1 of us will get home even later. My nanny feeds our son between 5:30 and 6:00 and we don't eat until usually 8:30 after they both have gone to bed.
Sometimes he eats leftovers of what we ate the night before. I also try to freeze certain meals when I have leftovers for him to eat. Other times, its simple things that she will cook for him - eggs, pasta, Dr. Praegers, etc.
