Re: FULL-Time Kindergarten - spin-off Question
Im gonna care whether Im a SAHM or whether I work PT or even FT!
My friends kids go to half day kindegarten, and I honestly think it S UCKS!
The kids still have to cover the same amount of work kids in FULL day cover, therefore they get so much homework, and many times have to sacrafice their recess- because there is just so much material to cover!

No a SAHM but will definitely echo Marissa's sentiments.
Joseph went from learning about cones, rectangular prisms in a full-day program to learning rhyming in a 2.5 hour program.

I completely agree with the above posters. It is incredible how different elementary school expectations are in general today.
That said I don't think a child not attending a full day program is "doomed." I really think that children are what they are academically. However, in my opinion, full day gives them an edge as they acclimate to both academic expectations as well as get used to being in school all day.

Re: FULL-Time Kindergarten - spin-off Question
I'm a SAHM and my son is in full time kindergarten.. Why would my being a SAHM is any factor though??
It's amazing to me what he does in school and how much he has learned because he is there a full day.

This is 100% the truth. I totally agree and am upset that my SD is 1/2 day. My son will be going next year. Last year my niece was in 1/2 day kindergarten and she went from a sweet fun loving child to a basket case. She was a mess. My SIL & brother were upset as well and they finally understood it was totally related to the school issues. This year she's in first grade and is so much better. I think this issue needs to be at the forefront of all parents' minds with kids who will be doing 1/2 day. If I didnt see it with my own eyes, I'd still believe it but to watch this poor kid totally change, was really upsetting.
