fun way to wrap up sound, heat and light?
anyone have a fun 40 minute or 1.5 hr idea to wrap up our sound, heat, and light unit in 2nd gr?
split the class into thirds and give each 1/3 sound, heat and light and have them each make a page in a book for next yr's 2nd graders?
I'd love to have them measure their shadows at different times throughout the day, but that's too dependent on the weather....

But that is such a GREAT activity...you do need to be flexible with the date based on the weather.
I use compasses to line up north south east and west, and a nail that produces a shadow (you can use coffee stir sticks). The shadow at solar noon is perfectly to the north b/c the sun is perfectly in the south. The students record the shadow length at least 6 times over the course of a day. (i do it in 8th grade :)
The activity also shows the relationship between angle of sun above horizon and length of shadow
tie in heat by taking temperature each time they go out side??
sound....what sounds they hear with their eyes closed when outside marking the shadows??

great idea...
Ahh, I'm sorry, I wasn't clear... if it was just 1 class I could be flexible... but I'm the enrichment teacher and it's 5 different classes that meet on different days..
