Funeral and cold season
My grandfather passed away on Monday and the wake/funeral us Fri/Sat. My mom wants me to avoid hugging and kissing everyone at the wake and just say I'm being cautious of colds for the baby. My mom said she did that when she was pregnant. It's such a bad time of year for colds and as I have horrible sinus problems normally that's been made worse from pregnancy, so a cold would be so bad for me. Do you think people will be insulted? I feel bad since I people are there for our family. It seems wrong to me, but several family members seem to agree.

Re: Funeral and cold season
I'm so sorry for your loss
The hugging not hugging thing can go either way. People may take offense while others may not. I personally will hug others (family) this holiday season. Not worried about catching a cold or anything. If I do catch a cold I will treat it; it won't affect the baby(common cold)

Funeral and cold season
Just tell them you're sick and you don't want to spread or make it worse....honestly, don't feel bad. I try to avoid hugs and kisses at all cost, even pre pregnancy. I am a germiphobe and I just don't see the need to give everyone and their mother a hug and kiss anymore, especially people I see on regular basis. Even the people I don't see, I usually pull a switch and tell them I am sick to avoid it.

Funeral and cold season
sorry to hear...
I would take the route of bunnyluck and tell them your not feeling great, and don't want to spread it....
Yes people go to funerals when they are sick because thats the only time to see them... I skipped a funeral when my newborn had just come out of the ICU, and I later heard someone spread a stomach virus, better to avoid catching things.

Re: Funeral and cold season
yeah unfortunately it was near impossible. People didn't really take no for an answer, not only did they hug me for condolences but then they patted my belly and congratulated me so I finally gave up and am hoping for the best. I am praying I don't get sick.
