Furniture needed - Bedroom and Dinning Room

I have been looking for a dinning room and a bedroom set for the new house. It must be real wood, the DH is a wood fanatic. I want my bedroom to be a light color wood and the dinning room can be light or dark. My main concern is that being the dining room will be right of the kitchen I want the seats to be durable.

I am having the same problem. We need a dining room set, bedroom, office furtniture and living roomChat Icon and yes, it must be real wood, dove tail joints etc. We went to some stores this week and so much of it was cr ap.

I think I've decided on a Broyhill set for the diningroom but I have to find a store on LI that carries it.

Considering how much I need I'll probably be ordering from North Carolina but I would like to look at pieces, in person, up here. DH is not into making a trip to NCChat Icon

Have you tried Thomasville, Broyhill, Stanley? They are some of the manufacturers that tend to be of higher quality.

I have the Broyhill Fontana bedroom set - that's light wood.

Jodi,

Can I ask where you got your set or where you saw it? I need to find a showroom that carried Broyhill on LI.

TIA

Re: Furniture needed - Bedroom and Dinning Room

When we bought our home, we had no furniture, except a plastic table and chairs that we used as a dining set, and a disgusting sofa and recliner.

We also had to furnish the entire house.

We used Ethan Allen for the entire house...and we used their design service as well (which was extremely helpful, since our first floor is mostly an open floor plan. They helped us pick fabrics and even paint colors. FM me if you would like to see any pics.

so much of the furniture sold today is junk. they really don't make it like they used to. everything is mass produced and certainly not made to last - JMO

our next bedroom set will be very good quality - all wood dove tail, etc. I want something that will last more than 6 years Chat Icon

I would suggest Ethan Allen and Domain. Very good products.

Re: Furniture needed - Bedroom and Dinning Room

I too had a very hard time finding a bedroom set that I liked and completely agree with the above posters who discussed the quality of furniture today. I feel like a lot of pieces are made of the same quality as Ikea, but charge an arm and a leg more for the same thing. We ended up almost breaking the bank and picking Stickly furniture for our bedroom set. The other brand I looked at was Thomas Moser, but they cost almost double what the Stickley set cost. faint:

On the 4th of July we were at my cousins house and completely lucked out, they gave us her mother's old dining room set. Her mom passed away 4 years ago and the set was sitting in her basement not being used. Neiher of her children wanted it, but she felt badly throwing it away. I cannot believe how lucky we are to have recieved it. The set is real wood and beautiful. I just need to recover the chairs.:

I actually had a friend who bought it and moved less than a year later - so I bought it from her, but I went to a showroom in CT to see an additional piece I wanted to purchase to add to the set. I think they had most of it on the floor. FM me if you are interested in going to CT and I'll look up the store info. I ordered the piece from Rose Furniture, NC.

Here's their website. I used the store locator to look up stores in CT (since I'm in Westchester) and called every store until I found one that had the set on the floor!!!

I think I was right across the street from the one located on Rt 110 Chat Icon figures right?... so close yet so far. Story of my life... my DH and I went to college together, lived in the same dorm, knew 25 of the same people but never met until 14 years later. Apparently, my diningroom set was under my nose as well, I was just on the wrong side of the streetChat Icon

Thank you!

We purchased our bedroom set at Thomasville which is all real wood (dh is the same way with the wood) and our entertainment unit at Ethan Allen also real wood. If felt that Ethan Allen was a little less but not by much and had more a of a selection.

I have to say I saw some Broyhill today and was not empressed. there was a diningroom set that I liked on line but when I saw it in the store it was all veneer and the drawers did not look well constructed. I was really dissapointed as it seems as if most dining rroms sets are either too casual or too ornate for meChat Icon

We had a bit better luck with Thomasville. Better construction. I liked one set but the headboards on both style beds were huge, really tall headboards. Also the smaller nightstand only came with the marble top.

It's off to Ethan Allen and some Basset furniture tomorrow. Oh, and Harry's for the Home.Chat Icon
