FYI - First Trimester Girls
Just posted it in my chat about my first doctor appointment but wanted to tell anyone in their first trimester that yesterday my doctor (Dr. Rifkin at Great Neck OBGYNs) I learned that NY State is allowing that new blood test between 11-12 weeks for women UNDER 35 that a) checks for Downs Syndrome and at this stage is 90% accurate, but also...b) TELLS YOU THE SEX OF THE BABY which is amazing because usually we'd have to wait until 20 weeks, and only if you were over 35 would they let you take that test!
So crazy to think how modern medicine is changing literally during our pregnancy's and soon we'll hear "Congrats, you're 4 weeks, it's a boy and it'll be a doctor!"

I don't think the insurance company will always cover it though

Yes
I'm second trimester, but just an FYI, we called my insurance company before I had it done because I am 34 and we wanted to be sure. They covered it because I will be 35 when I deliver, by a month, which is why my doctor wanted it done. But otherwise they wouldn't have covered it.

Yes i had it done and I asked them to check and make sure my insurance covered it. It's a $2300 blood test. Not all will cover it. My friend is fighting it now.

Yes this is true, I found out at 11 weeks that I'm having a boy. They offered me this test and I'm 32. It checks for lots of genetic abnormalities too. Hopefully my insurance covers it!
Edited to clarify that I had the blood drawn at 11 weeks but found out the results a week or so later.

If you plan on getting done, you absolutely must check with your insurance company first. My friend had this done (she's 31) thinking it would be covered by her insurance since it checked for Down Syndrome and the other trisonomy genes but turns out it wasn't and was considered elective/non-mandatory. She is now in the midst of appealing the decision with her insurance company and its a mess. The bill she received was for close to $1900. Not worth it IMO. Just wait for your anatomy scan to find out gender and get the blood work for Downs that is covered.

Thanks for letting us know. Of course I'd have to wait to get the results!
