FYI about car seats - bump for Natay

I went to a place in Mineola to have DD's car seat installed since she outgrew the infant carrier. He told me the infant carrier wasn't properly installed (a friend of mine did it). Here are a few facts I learned (don't know how true they are but he works for the town in safety so I'll take his word for it Chat Icon )

1. The mighty tight is a very dangerous product (I had this on my infant seat). He said it loosens the threads in the seatbelt when it's tightened and can break the seatbelt or get it to the point where the threads become so loose it breaks on an impact.

2. None of the Britax carseats should need the towel underneath - if you have one, it isn't installed properly.

3. The bundle me is another very dangerous product (I used this all winter) because the straps don't sit properly on the baby and he knew of 2 cases last year in Nassau where the baby was thrown out of the car seat with the bundle me on.

4. I have a new Honda Pilot. I wanted the seat installed in the middle where the infant seat was. He said not all cars are compatible and that if you have to install it on one of the sides, the best side is the passenger side because the most likely place cars are hit with accidents are first - the passenger side, second, the driver back seat, third, the driver and least hit is the passenger back seat. I don't know why, he said those are the statistics. ETA: He had it installed in the middle but said while the middle is safest, it wasn't 100% so he suggest having it properly installed on the right side, rather than improperly installed in the middle.

Just thought I'd share!

Re: FYI about car seats

instead of the bundle me we had the kiddopotmaus thing and it worked great. it goes over the seat so it does not interfer with the straps.

Re: FYI about car seats

They have some pretty neat stuff!

Oh he also said there should not be anything under the seat like a seat cover to protect the actual car seat - I forget why...

He also said baby mirrors can fly off and kill someone going 40 mph but I am taking my chances with that one - I get so nervous when the mirror moves and I can't see her.
