The court-ordered C doesn't scare me at all. IMO why would you be willing to risk your life and the baby's life just because you so desperately want a v-birth? There's a difference between advocating for yourself and listening to the advice of several doctors and midwives (which is what I came across in my short google search). It's not like these judges arbitrarily decided to order Cs without speak to both the patient and doctor.

Absolutely agree.
There are medical cases in which people are advised not to get pregnant at all (in which there is a very high risk to both mother and child)... such as certain types of heart disease, ect. If those people do get pregnant... a CS can be the way with the highest probability to ensure the safety of both parties.

Re: FYI: Court Ordered C-Sections - Rachel Ray Today
My sister in law was told she could never deliver vaginally. Although she wantd to try vbac for the second, I dont think she would have gone any longer to harm her or the baby...
She ended up with a second c... which she was told was th eonly way she would ever be able to "get the baby out"
needless to say she isn't trying again

Sorry to crash but I agree with LB. My sister was told with her first by her High Risk doctor that a CSection was the only option for her. Not only a c-section but they had to cut her vertically and then horizontally (they wanted as little pressure on the baby's head as possible.
Without hesitation my sister agreed. The doctor thanked her for not arguing with him. And proceeded to tell her how many women fight a c-setion even when they are told it was best for both them an the baby (possibly even life saving).
My sister's thought was the doctor told her this is what was best for her baby, though she didn't want a c-section, why would she even risk it or argue it.

Re: FYI: Court Ordered C-Sections - Rachel Ray Today
I watched this today, and the hospital made a statement that said they didn't feel that they didn't have the resources to take care of her properly if something went wrong. (My words, not their exact words.)
If the hospital doesn't feel like they can handle it then she should go find another hospital. Which she did. She found one that is a 5 hour drive away. I can't imagine that there isn't one in a less than 5 hour radius that will do a VBAC, so I am not sure what the deal was with that.

Slippery slope once we let courts decide someones care versus the person themself.

Yes, and this is what scares me.
I understand c-sections that are the only viable option for high risk cases. But what and who and what will determine, how risky a case really is? Is a large baby a risky case if the woman has a petite frame, in an otherwise perfectly normal pregnancy? Ask your OB, I wish I had this as one of my OB interview questions before I started this.
