FYI: Scam Alert

So a short time ago the phone rings. The caller ID says Unknown number and 000-000-0000. I thought it was odd and almost didn't pick it up.

But I did.

The woman, definitely a US Northeastern accent (not Nigerian...lol), asks for myself or my husband by name and says she's calling from Wells Fargo Bank.

She claims my homeowners insurance was never paid and we are overdue We need to call a particular customer service number and give them them payment information

Well, I never give out any info to people who call me.

I call DH. He looks up the Wells Fargo customer service number and it's ONE DIGIT OFF So the scammers get a number that's one digit off!!! Also, why would they call in April if our policy is dated MONTHS from now?

We call our insurance broker. They are investigating.

Beware and remember, never, ever give out personal info to anyone who calls you.

Yikes!! That was good thinking on your husband's part to check their website.

I wonder how they got your name? That would really freak me out.

i hate scammers like that!! good thing you didn't fall for it.

another scam they do is call you in the middle of the nite and claim they are from your credit card company and that your information may have been stolen and thousands have been charged on your card---so can you please verify the credit card #, DOB, and your SS #

they do it when you are sleeping in hopes you'll be too groggy to realize what is happening.

thank god your DH was inspector gadget!!!! I would have freaked if I got that call. Why wouldn't you not believe it.
