Isn't it obvious?

FYI..those suffering with me with sinus issues...

So for those of you who have been suffering along with me these past few days with HORRIBLE sinus issues...

I went to CVS today to buy Sudafed...which is on my Dr's list of OK meds to use.

I wanted to ask the consultant physician/pharmacist on staff there and I told him my issue and said, "I know sudafed is ok...but was wondering if there was something else"

He ADAMENTLY told me "NO sudafed...absolutely not."

I said "You can't!?? But it's on the OK list!"

And he said "Nope...no sudafed while pregnant."

SO....Just wanted to pass that along incase you want to speak to your doctor about it. I plan on it this week when I go. But thought you all might want to know that tid bit of Info Chat Icon

It was on my docs ok list too. I thought it was strange that it was. It gives me heart palpitations so I can't take it.

Yea...I can't wait to ask my OB and see what she says! I never like taking anything to begin with, but it's been SO bad the past few days I was desperate.

But thank god I've been consistent with the netty pot and it's been working wonders for me Chat Icon

it's on my OB's safe list too - but my primary care doc and the pharmacist both said NO... sudafed speeds up both mommy AND baby heartrates.

i took the 'target' version of sudafed and saw my GD nurse that day and she sent me to the ER because my heart rate was SKY HIGH (in addition to my lungs sounding 'gunky').....

it was on my OB's safe list too but she said she does NOT like it - but for some people, it's all that works.

My doctor was against his patients using it but I never liked it anyway. I used the saline spray that was in an aerosol...so it created some pressure while being sprayed. I heard great things about the Netti-Pot, though!

My pharmacist said the same thing. He said it makes your heart rate go up. So i called up my ob(since it is also on my dr's list of ok medicines) and talked to the dr and the dr said its ok to take if you have to but if you feel the slightest bit of an elevated heart rate stop taking it. It reacts differently in everyone. I wound up taking the 24 hour Claritin because it worked better for me.

i've been using the saline rinse (like the netti pot, just in a bottle form) and it definitely helps get the gunk out.

however, i think im getting a chest cold b/c yesterday i was short of breath, i have that loose cough. i think i need to call the doc....

I went to my Dr on Friday b/c I thought it could be my Sinuses acting up, and I had a full blown Sinus Infection... So she put me on Amoxicillon...Chat Icon

My OB said he didn't recommend it b.c it can cause palpitations and racing heartbeats.

I tried the Netti Pot yesterday for the first time and I didn't experience much relief. Did any of you find that it got better the more often you did it? Do you know how often you can use the pot, like how many times per day?

Give it a day. The salt in the water is a bacteria killer. Im not a doc or nurse...but this is what I read. I would use it every 12 hours until you feel better...thats what I did. Make sure you do both nostrils.

Oh you definitely have to be consistent with it. It won't work by using it just one time. I was using it 3x a day...not sure if that was good or not...but relief has come!!

Stay with it. It will work! Chat Icon

who cares about a doctors list, make up your own mind by reading about the drug. I always did that.

A lot of things on many docs safe lists are category C- which some women would rather avoid if they have other options

And FYI- the whole time i was preggers with #1 i had sinus paid + constant post nasal drip and like snot up my throat (sorry for the visual, dont know how else to describe it).... anyways, point being, 1 week after i gave birth it all went away.... the instant i got pregnant with #2 it came back.
.. it can be a pregnancy symptom, at least it is for me. I think it just goes along with extra mucous and discharge in your body.
