Gagging on Stage 3 foods?
Tried Stage 3 Gerber food tonight and everytime he took a spoonful he gagged.
He eats Arrowroots, pieces of pancake, waffles, cheerios, etc. So I know he can chew and swallow.
Are these too much for him?
Should I just keep trying until he gets used to it or wait???
TIA

Christopher hates them and does that too...and clamps his mouth shut
I am actually not going to give them anymore b/c the ones with rice give him HORRIBLE gas (i.e. waking up SCREAMING at midnight til he burps)

Re: Gagging on Stage 3 foods?
my son did the same thing at first. I would keep trying. I found that he liked the Earths Best Soups the best, they are thicker but not as lumpy as the gerber.

So what do you give him instead?
Stage 2s?

For us, it was just getting used to. I'd say we had 2 jars (made 3 meals from each jar) before he really got used to it.

Re: Gagging on Stage 3 foods?
Noah doesnt like them either. I honestly think its made weird. i would say stick with table foods and stage 2's.
My ped also says that certain mixtures are not palatable for babies till 10-11 months....like sauces and gravies...And a lot of those stage 3 foods have those in them.
They are overly processed and he may "taste" that and the gagging is a result, not of the texture but taste.
I would do stage 2's and start feeding him a little more of what your eating.

Even the Organics? I would say some. I opened the EB chicken and stars just to see the texture & smell it & I wanted to gag. It had a weird gooeyness to it

Stage 2s?
Either a Stage 2 fruit or veggie mixed with cereal or a Stage 2 dinner and then one of the fruit "desserts".

Well it depends ...Stage 2 foods that are USDA certified organic are not allowed to have any preservatives, additives or artifical coloring....
Stage 3's are allowed, and some do and some dont.
For example..we have some pasta ones here at the house we have had a while..and the pasta on the ingredients list is called "organic pasta product" ...meaning they make it in a lab but use organic flours etc to make...but its obviously processed more then regular pasta not being "canned" or "jarred" ...
So the taste is different.
A lot of the stage 3's have a lot of wheat, and barley and flour added to them...they are cheap refind foods, and cheap organic foods.
Many babies are not used to those combos and thats what they taste as their taste buds arent yet what ours are..
Also why the food tastes different to us then to them.
So pasta made on your stove is gonna taste different, even if both are healthy.

Re: Gagging on Stage 3 foods?
Neither of my kids could handle the stage three foods...it's almost like they're anticipating baby food texture and then a chunk sneaks in on them and they don't know what to do. After a few tries, I just skipped the whole stage three altogether.

And just went to "regular" people food or went back to Stage 2?

Re: Gagging on Stage 3 foods?
ds is a major gagger and i talked to a speech therapist that specializes in feeding therapy. she said that stage 3 foods are difficult b/c it's pureed and then has chunks and like the pp said the chunks sneak up on you by getting on the back of the tongue and that causes a gag.
i'm sticking with stage 2's and thickening them with cereal. i'm also slowly trying more finger foods. so far the only thing ds likes is white american cheese (i ball them up like peas).
gl!

same here, Ryan would gag whenever I tried. I agree, it was a weird mix for him, and it was like he didnt know what to prepare for, chew or swallow? we pretty much skipped stage 3

Re: Gagging on Stage 3 foods?
ellie never got the hang of these so we skipped them entirely. She did better with real food so that's what we did. She just never wanted them and always gagged on them. so we mixed some real food into her diet while giving her stage 2s.
