garbage pick-up
How do I get the garbage men to take garbage cans I'm trying to throw away?
I've put big X's with markers on them....I leave them empty.....I write "garbage - please take"
Our garbage men are great about taking stuff, we put a lot out sometimes and they always take it.
But I can't get them to take the old garbage cans

Put them in the recycling bin if they are recyclable...they should take them if they are crushed.

Re: garbage pick-up
We wanted to do the same thing so we bought extra large ommercial black garbage bags and put them in the bags.
We put them out and the garbage men took them.
We live in the Town of Oysterbay and garbage pick up is quite good. I am pretty impressed with them They will take anything.....

we just did this tonight with our old recycle bin, it was already mangled so he just finished the job and stuffed it into the new recycle bin.

Re: garbage pick-up
How about finding a dumpster somewhere and throwing it in there?

Re: garbage pick-up
Are you inthe town of Brookhaven by any chance? I notice they are very strict (and annyoing ) with the garbage rules. Where I previously lived (town of smithtown) the garbage collection was nothing like this. I think they actually weigh the garbage bags sometimes We had to have a gargabe inspector come here and inspect our garbage a few times because the garbage men said it violated the rules They probably have a rule against taking old garbage cans I wouldn't be suprised.

we live in the town of brookhaven - and never have a problem, sometimes we call to knda give them a heads up but they always take it in the timeframe they promise....
