Re: gas or flutters?
I am reading a book - Your Pregnancy Week by Week - and it says until at least week 16 that you are feeling gas. The baby (no matter how many there are) can't be felt before 16 weeks. Normally you may start to feel the baby between 16 and 20 weeks.

I just wanted to say that I did feel them earlier than 16 weeks, and one of my OB's, who has been practicing medicine for over 40 years, told me it IS possible to feel the baby's flutters before 16 weeks and that was what I was feeling. The flutters may not be consistent and obviously not strong, but it is possible. Also, the "What to Expect" book says you can feel them quite early also if you are slender to begin with or it is your second pregnancy. So every book, and doctor, will have a different opinion on this. I can tell you that what I felt early on continued to feel that way and definitely felt different from indigestion.

I read that too.
What it is earlier then that is sometimes the amniotic fluid moving you feel. The baby is too small at any stage earlier then 16 weeks to feel any significant flutters....

Re: gas or flutters?
I don't know...I am pretty much 100% sure I felt Katherine at 15-15 1/2 weeks...pretty close to 16, I guess. This time, I'm pretty sure it's all in my head still (@14 weeks almost).
Anyhow, it felt like twitching very low in my pelvis. Not like gas at all for me.

I felt the baby earlier too...and my doctor also said it was possible. I have IBS, so I know what the gas feeling feels like and this was totally different. Once you feel the baby, I think you can definately distinguish the difference.
