Gastric Reflux in Infants--HELP!
Vincent has been diagnosed with Gastric Reflux, we were in the ER last night because he was coughing and choking and gagging so much. Today he has a fever and they are saying not to worry, but of course I am worried. I cannot find anything that says fever is a result of reflux. The doctor made me start giving him a half ounce less and add rice to the bottle.
Does anyone elses DC have this? What worked for you if anything? Did you ever hear of a fever happening because of it?
TIA!

maybe he has a drip down his throat from nose drainage?? maybe that's whats making him gag and choke.. typically babies with reflux have other signs of it like wreching, arching their back, sometimes spit up.. ect

Jacon has had reflux since birth...he spits up a lot and arches his back after and during eating. He is on Zantac 2 times a day. He never had fever and I dont think that fever is associated with refux

Yes, a fever can be present if they have aspirated on their reflux (meaning some of it has gotten into the lungs). When Ava was in the ER for her reflux they told me just to keep an eye out for it. I'm sure it'll be fine, just keep checking the temp and go back to the ER if it gets really high. It's really not anything to worry about, though.

John has very bad GERD. The only thing that has helped him is Similac Alimentum with Rice and it's still bad (he's almost 11 mos.) I know how hard it is. If you need support, I'm here. It DOES get better once they start getting around on their own. I don't believe he's ever had a fever though....
He did, however, go through about 40 outfits a day....

EXACTLY! Vincent goes through about 15 bibs a day and at least 4-5 outfits! His face even breaks out from all the saliva and spit up constantly coming out of his mouth! He arches his back after eating a lot, but I thought he was just stretching! Already adding the rice to his formula (he is on Enfamil Gentlease) has helped. He is spitting up a lot less. But still has a mild fever.

Ah yes, the bibs ... you can never have enough. I must have 100. I'm not exaggerating. If it makes you feel better, I don't even put a bib on John anymore and only bring one change of clothes ... just incase ... but hardly ever need to use it. John's face always has the rash too ... even on his cheeks! I tried him on the Gentlease too. If you don't see a major improvement, ask your doctor about Alimentum.
