Gates - do you think it is safe
to have one of the pressure mounted gates that swings open at the top of the stairs? I have to put up a gate, as Marron will be starting to walk with the assistance of one of those push toys. The gate I got at my shower is one that has to be screwed into the wall, but there aren't beams near the edges of the wall to secure the gate to. I was considering getting one of the pressure mounted ones, but I'm a bit worried that it might push out of place. Does anybody have this type of gate at the top of their stairs?

I have all pressure mounted gates and I think they are fine. Are yours the kind that have colored markers that let you know if they are tight enough or not?? I am happy with mine and I think they are very safe....

Re: Gates - do you think it is safe
We had our pressure mounted at the top of the stairs and had no problems. We did tighten them fairly often. We would push on them hard to make sure they were tight & then retighten them again.

Re: Gates - do you think it is safe
I personally would never put a pressure mounted gate at the top of stairs. The idea of it makes me uneasy. We have the kind that screws into the wall at the top of our stairs. My FIL added a strip of wood to the edge of the wall for added support. You can see it in the right of the pic... (Don't mind DS he wasn't happy that I left him upstairs)

same here, maybe its my 3 boys, but I would never. dont they specifically say that theyre not for the top of the stairs.?
I dont usually follow all "rules" but in this case, Id just rather play safe, my boys are monkeys.

I personally would not use on either. I got a swing gate that only swings one direction. I have the pressure mounted gate blocking off my dinig room and I feel like thy could push it out if they both tried together.

Awwwwwww poor little guy...
When it comes to stairs I would get one that mounts to a wall. Stairs are very dangerous. So yes I would get one that you have mount into the wall. I live in an apartment so I really don't think i'll be needing one that has to mount to the wall. I'll probably end up getting a pressure one to put in between the dinning room and living room. My dinning room and kitchen are connected and the bathroom is right before the living room so I have to separate that from the living room so DS won't get into the cat's litter box that's in the bathroom.

Re: Gates - do you think it is safe
Personally i wouldn't use a pressure mount at the top of the stairs.
i am def going to get a mounted gate reinforced by some wood on the wall.
I am pretty much laid back with everything else, just not safety around the stairs.
