GD Question??

Hey MoMs... just wondering what the likelihood is that I could develop GD simply by being pg with twins??

I'm relentlessly thirsty and have a TERRIBLE time with sugary and carb loaded foods... does that indicate anything?? I'm 18wks. I see my OB next Thursday, do you think this is something that I should bring up to him?? It's too early to test for GD now right??

Re: GD Question??

Do you have any history of diabetes in your family?

Are you over 25?

Was Logan 9 lbs or more?

If yes, those things will increase your odds. That's what I've learned!

Being pregnant with twins DOES increase your odds also.

I didn't have GD with my first. I was 25 though. 1 person in my family had diabetes (my mom's mom).

I ate total junk and carbs with Loey and same with this pregnancy... and last time I didn't have it and this time I do.

Re: GD Question??

ok well i didn't have it with the boys, but the pregnancy with the girls i did. i failed the one hour and when i tried to do the 3 hour i couldn't keep the drink down. so they just diagnosed me with it and my sugars were always fine. don't worry if you end up having it it's not that bad. they test for that at 25 weeks i think and then i had the girls at 36 weeks so i didn't have to deal with it for that long. keep me posted hon!!!!

I don't "think" anyone has diabetes that's blood related… but I'm not clear on my dad's family history.

Are you over 25?

Yes… 31

Was Logan 9 lbs or more?

He was 8.6lbs

Re: GD Question??

DS was 9lbs3oz and I was 25 when I delivered him. Passed 1 hour with flying colors.

28 when I delivered my girls. Failed one hour but passed 3 hour easily.

My mother (and her father) both have/had Type II Diabetes.

I do think your risk is increased with multiples, but that's all I really know.

You have more of a chance of having GD when you have twins. Also, I believe if you have PCOS you also have a higher chance. Do you have PCOS?

I had it and I felt very weird after eating foods with high sugar. I am warning you. The one hour test wasn't bad. I did fail it, but I didn't react badly to it. The 3 hour test was pure torture. I felt like I was going to pass out and puke. I was sweating and everything. So, if you fail the 1 hour test I would ask your Dr. if there is something else you can do to determine if you have it, because next time (not likely) I have a child. I will not do the 3 hour test. It was an aweful feeling.

Re: GD Question??

When I went for my one hour my dr. wanred me that most multiple moms fail the one hour but then should pass the 3 hour. I failed both. The one hour I failed horribly and the 3 hour I was close to passing but not close enough.
