General question - is it possible to change school districts if you don't move?
Someone at work asked me and I have no idea - but figured someone here would...
I think she wants her DS to go to a neighboring district... is it possible?

You may have to pay that district tuition if you do not reside there.

I think she would need to have a reason like home district doesn't meet her child's special ed needs.
Would make no sense if you could switch at will being as you are not paying taxes to support the neighboring district.

This is not always possible, otherwise people would do it constantly. Buy a cheaper house but just pay for another district.

This thread on city-data may be helpful - same question was asked in 2008..

I def do not think you would do that. Wouldnt a lot of people take advantage of this?
Never heard this was an option.

Re: General question - is it possible to change school districts if you don't move?
I know by me it is possible. One of my coworkers commuted 45 minutes to work and she looked into enrolling her children in the school district that we work in. The district said she could do it but it would be $$$. Taxes for my school district are 6-8K - they wanted to charge her like 7K for each child....she has 4. She opted to move into our school district instead.

I do residency checks for people suspected of living outside of the school district i work for...so have her check with the superintendent as to what they allow or don't. I believe ours will let students finish out their Sr year even if they have moved. But we do inform others who have blatantly lied about where they reside that they must change to their proper district.
