Genetic testing vs nuchal scan
I had the panorama test done last Monday and my dr said it was one or the other. She encouraged me to get the panorama test done because I would be 35 when I deliver, so I didn't question her recommendation.
I heard from one of my girlfriends today and she said that she had both and that the nuchal test also tests for heart defects, spina bifida where the panorama test does not.
Did any one have just the genetic testing done and not the nuchal screen?
I am wondering if I should push my dr for a nuchal screen.

I did both. You should do both. Blood testing isn't 100% just like the NT scan.

You don't need the NT scan if you are doing the panorama. You will still get the AFP blood test that tests for spinal bifida. The NT scan is no where as accurate as the panorama. The Panorama is like 99.1% accurate.

I just came from my doctor. He told me I only have to do the Panorma..no need for the nuchal.

Genetic testing vs nuchal scan
I posted the same question last week! I am having both but that's because my doctor does for women over 35. Here is an answer on why to do both from one of the posters from my post:
Both are screeners for chromosomal abnormalities but Harmony is more accurate (less false positives and false negatives). During my NT, the tech explained that they still do the NT because it helps to also have the visual and they did an anatomy scan at that time too, which can identify other possible developmental issues.

I said that!
As a previous poster mentioned, I think your friend might be thinking of the AFP, which tests for neural tube defects. I didn't have the blood portion of the NT because I did Harmony. I was worried I was missing something too but my dr explained that the blood portion of the NT tests the same thing as Harmony but less accurate. The AFP tests something different (neural tube defects) but is done later. I just did mine today and I'm 15w6d (NT scan was done a few weeks ago).

I had both. My MaterniT21 was negative, but my NT measurement was very, very slightly over the cutoff, so my doc is having me get a fetal echo.
Thus, given my experience I'd push for both tests if your insurance will cover them.

I had both, though they didn't have me do the blood work part of the NT scan. They didn't spend too much time looking at the heart, though. more the neck, but she did point out the heart for a few seconds.

Re: Genetic testing vs nuchal scan
I had both. My doctor explained that last year a baby was born at north shore with downs when the genetic testing had come back negative. Since then, the hospital has urged all affiliated doctors to do both. It just gives you more information and more results. I personally would not feel comfortable having to "choose" if I know so many practices are to do both, and for valid reason.

Did panorama, NT scan along with bloods work at 12 wks. Seemed routine, OB didn't say anything different . OB is affiliated with North shore, so maybe that's why?

Re: Genetic testing vs nuchal scan
For those of you who had both, do any of you have NYSHIP the Empire Plan? My dr's office is telling me I can't do both because both aren't covered by my insurance. Only one or the other they will cover.
I figured I will call the insurance company today but I am just curious if anyone has them and had an issue with them covering both the nuchal scan and panoroma/harmony/etc.
Thanks!

Re: Genetic testing vs nuchal scan
I did the genetic blood test and my dr would not do nuchal sonogram. He said blood test was more accurate. I had the spina bifida test at 15 weeks. I did ask for a sono at 12 weeks and they just said no.
At 20 weeks they checked the heart, kidneys, brain, umbilical insertion and all the rest of that.

I have nyship and they covered both. I only had lab fee co-pays of $20
