Genetics Testing PGD-WWYD?
Ok, this is a whole WWYD or WDYD question. My DH and I have low motitliy, PCOS. and other items going on. I also tested as a carrier for Fragile X, above the normal level. I went to a genetics counselor and met with the head RE who does PGD. Would you do it even if it was not covered by insurance and you new your chance was about 40%?

This is my opinion and just my opinion only.
I dont think I would because with no insurance coverage, 40% success rate just isnt enough for me to want to go thru it

Re: Genetics Testing PGD-WWYD?
I would. We thought we might have to do PGD because of cystic fibrosis. It was definitely worth it to us. 40% is very high in my opinion. Think about all the things you will spend money on. If you can afford it, it is worth it for your child to not have a disease. If I didn't have the money, I would wait until I did. This is just my opinion. Good luck! I'm sure this is a tough decision.
ETA - What percent is 40%? Is there a 40% chance your LO would get the disease without PGD?

Re: Genetics Testing PGD-WWYD?
i think you need to explain what the 40% is.
if its 40% that IVF would work AND the baby def wouldnt have fragile-X, well that is pretty much as good as it gets so i would def say do it. also if that's what the 40% represents, what are the chances of getting preg with a healthy baby otherwise?? is it 40% vs. like 10%?? i think we need more detailed info before we could really make that decision.

Re: Genetics Testing PGD-WWYD?
I have had two Miscarriages due to abnormal chromosomal and my husband and I considered PGD but we just can't afford it. We could dip into our saving but we would rather not do that. So we have decided to try IVF with PGD. Now our situation is a little different then yours because all of our tests have come back normal. But honestly if we could afford it, we would do it just for the piece of mind of knowing our baby has a normal chromosomal count.

Re: Genetics Testing PGD-WWYD?
I have done pgs twice, once with a positive result (DS) and once with a negative result. I firmly believe that we would not have DS without pgs. That being said we are continuing to try without pgs because we are out of money. I do urge people is to remember that its not 100% (which I myself kinda forget the second time )
