George Overpays at the Lemonade Stand
When life gives you lemons, make lemonade and sell it near the set of George Clooney's new movie.
The Oscar-winning actor paid $20 for his lemonade, which 10-year-old Carter, 6-year-old Chandler and 5-year-old Chase Fontaine were selling at their stand for 25 cents.
Clooney made his way over to the lemonade stand Wednesday afternoon after shooting scenes for Leatherheads, a movie about the early days of professional football costarring Renée Zellweger.
The boys' mother, Courtney Fontaine, offered Clooney the lemonade for free, but Clooney insisted on paying, sending someone over with a $20 bill.
Chandler enjoyed telling people afterward that Clooney's representative didn't want any change.
Before long, Carter had made another sign that read, "George Clooney was here!" and planted it at the road.
It’s a charming story for sure, but the best part is the fact that Clooney had “his people” pay for the beverage.
We like to imagine Clooney accepting a cup of the tart beverage with a wink before waving over his assistant shouting, “Give the kid some money, will ya?!” He’d then chug the contents and the assistant would lean forward so Clooney could smash the paper Dixie chalice into his waiting forehead.
As for the kids? The enterprising youths will likely use the celebrity angle to parlay their roadside operation into much, much more. Quickly changing their name to George Clooney’s Favorite Lemonade, they’ll begin charging $20 a cup, and eventually take their brand worldwide.
Years from now at family functions, they’ll still scoff at their mother, “And you wanted to give it to him for free!”
