Gerbils

I grew up in an apartment where we couldnt have pets so my parents got me and my sister 3 gerbils and we LOVED them! I dont remember getting bitten, maybe a handful of times at most. I was thinking of getting 2 for my son (and for me too). After losing Rocky, I still want another pet but I cannot bring myself to get another dog yet.

Anyway, can you get healthy ones just anywhere? I was reading that alot of places inbreed them and they can get seizures and all kinds of bad things. Anyone know of a good place to get them? I am in Lindenhurst and was thinking Pets Warehouse. In Franklin Square there is a great non-chain pet store I know of but its a bit far to travel for gerbils.

Any care advice would be great too. Thanks!

I know a while back when I donated some things to Katie's Critters after my hamster died they had a lot of them up for adoption. Worth looking into?
