Thank you for ALL the updates --- very informative.
I too live ALL the way out east and while we are not evacuated the low lying areas in East Hampton and Southampton have been evacuated.
But for the people that think that this storm won't be a problem.... this was taken at a Bridgehampton beach at about 9 am on Sat. HOURS before Irene is to arrive here!

I decided to leave last night with my son. It normally takes me 2 1/2 hours------last night it took almost 4 to get here because the amount of traffc and fender benders.
I am glad you did...wish you would have taken my friend and family with you too

Plus they are saying that it is moving at about half the speed that a storm normally moves through here. (Read: it will rain for twice as long, who cares how bloody windy it is!)

I know it's easy for me to talk because I live in the area of Queens that will be least touched by the hurricane, but this whole situation is making me thing of Katrina and all the people who were TOLD to leave and didn't... Then they blamed the government, those who stayed alive, that is!
